If it would have 8x zoom, it wouldn’t be called G…, it would be completely different camera. I personally think that G5 would be practically the same as G3 (maybe black), but with 5 MP.

I can only hope that the G4 will be 5 or 6 megapixels and have a longer > optical zoom (at least 8x).

Any info out yet?
Oh ya....tons of info...the new G4-5-6 will be launched any day now , and will have every feature you should ever want at a more than competitive price point....get you orders in early....this one's hot! If you do a forum search, you'll find a lot of great info on this new model, including detailed specs, full colour product images, and release dates....a wealth of information is at your fingertips!

I'm new to canon cameras, what does the G have to do with the lens?

Please forgive CHIA, he has the soul of a cynic. It was not always thus, but his patience has all but been worn away waiting for the Ultimate Digital.

In other words...no info yet, only shadows on the wall.

Wow, nice language. Makes people really jump to help you. And, actually, there is a there is plenty of info on this forum. If you had searched the forum, you would have found pages and pages of the same exact question you asked.

And I completely agree with CHIA, the same question has been asked over and over again and it get a little BORING.

The Canon G series has historicly been a pro-sumer camera in a compact format vs. "SLR like", and w/ 8X zoom, a large SLR like at that, hence the speculation.

I'd guess 5MP 1/1.8", black, same lens as G3, maybe some minor body & S/W tweaks, (see A40/A45 vs. A50 for a possible analog) but have no basis in fact for any of this.

I'd also guess the next generation is likely to be announced before the end of summer (Sept) -- that would be a year from the G3 intro -- and available before the end of fall (what was the delay between announcenent and shipping for the G3?), perhaps much sooner, possibly later, no one knows. If you feel you can wait 1-3 months, you probably should.

I suppose it is possible Canon might introduce an SLR like 6X or more zoomed 5MP camera too sometime, but then again, maybe they won't, prefering users to upgrade to one of their dSLR's

Well......take your own findings, which you posted above, and add 2 tablespoons of common sense....what do you get....it aint rocket science. I guess people hear and see what they want to hear & see....I personally like to deal with the facts. Do your homework, or prepared to get burnt. There are countless posts regarding this same subject...perhaps you were just too lazy to search???

BlackJack,

I really don't see your point, and the comment was not aimed at you anyways. About the wise as$ comment....ya, you're right if you mean I tell it like I see it....honesty is your best policy....even if it hurts a lil.

G1 released Sept 2000. G2 Released August 2002. G3 Released Sept 2003. I leave you all to decide on your own when you think the next generation Gx series of camera will be released.

My guess though, for what it is worth, will be about 3 months from now. As a current G1 owner I will be waiting to see what comes out of the Canon factory this time round!

Cheers,
Delirious.
