Hi there Jon.
Thank you very very much for providing a link to the Epson 950/960 reviews. My goodness; I had no idea how slow this printer was in terms of head alignment.......30 minutes to do a head alignment and having to feed the test sheet through 3 times withing that 30 minute period.....yikes!!! I certainly hope that process does not have to be repeated every time power is switched on and a new printing session is started.
All that being said though, the picture quality is still superb from all the sample I have seen so far. It still seems that the Canon I950 is the speed king at approximately 2 minutes for an 8x10 print with Epson's 950 following at about 8 minutes and HP's 7xxx series coming in last at 20 minutes for highest quality print speeds. Visually all these printers seem to produce stunning prints when samples are viewed unmagnified at normal viewing distances, but close magnified inspection still seems to put Epson's 960 as the sharpest, with HP's 7xxx series as second and Canon's I950 as 3rd place. There are still various items I like and dislike about all of these printers, but the biggest issue beyond clarity/sharpness for me is print longevity. From what I have read thus far on this forum, the Canon inks seem to produce the least longevity (although not for all users). It appears that there is a wide variation of longevity reported by people employing Canon inks; enough to make me think twice about purchasing a Canon printer. Thats really too bad, because Canon appears to have come a long way in clearing up head clog and microbanding problems from its older "S" series. I guess I will continue to borrow and use my nephew's old Epson 750 printer until manufacturers work the bugs out of their new models.
Thanks again for the eye-opening review links!
