Do you use auto review mode?

I usually leave auto review mode off because I don't want to wait for the camera to be ready to shoot again. But recently I find that it's quite helpful to be able to see if a person has blinked or not etc so I started trying auto review mode, set to 2 seconds. One immediate thing I find that is annoying is that when you dismiss the review screen by half pressing the shutter, the auto focus points don't appear immediately. It takes around a second before it comes back on and begins focusing.

So what does everyone prefer?

I have it off in both cameras. When choosing to review, I happen to have time at hand anyway, so I might as well make it manual option. When I'm shooting quickly, I could do without it... hence off.

Might be model dependent. On my a850 and a700, I've not found it impedes my ability to fire off another shot, so I have it set at 2 seconds. So, that after a burst of shots of the kids, I can sneak a peek to make sure exposure is how I wanted, then go right back to another burst.

No. It's very easy to press the Play button on the occasions when I want to review something.

Same as you. First with a55 and a77 I let it off (very easy to press play), but since half a year or so I have it to 2 secs... Never missed a shot and it's handy to have the ability to directly have a short check of the pics I took :)

If I now I am at a location where speed counts I would temporarily turn it off, but usually there is no problem with 2 secs - or press button to directly take the next shot...

I always leave it OFF. One of the benefits of SLT is true live view WISIWYG therefore you don't need to check image (exposure, WB, focus, etc.) like regular DSLR users.

I agree, really, the only thing I wanted to check is eye blinks. But still important, sometimes.

I have it turned off. If in any doubt, just take another shot anyway.

I usually have it on also but for fast shoot requirements (media work or even outdoor portraits or sports etc) I think I would turn it off.

I have not noticed a delay, but I only use the center AF point, so I don't really look for its illumination.

2 sec unless I'm doing rapid shooting.

I can't stand image review, and have it turned off on every camera I've ever owned except one - I had a P&S that couldn't turn it off, and it annoyed the heck out of me, so I barely used that camera.

It's one of the very first things I set on a new camera when I buy it...image review OFF, help menus and popups OFF, and set the JPG output to my liking.

The reason I leave it on is that my A77 usually but not always gives me a true live view WYSIWYG. I like to see when it doesn't, & to find out why.

Maybe it's because my photography evolved from decades of OVF cameras (??), but it's definitely OFF for me, in all of my SLT bodies. Whether tracking wildlife, sporting events, shooting portraits, or even family snapshot candids, there is nothing more annoying than to have my view of the action blocked with an "auto review" after each shot. Especially when shooting bursts of moving subjects (be it a grazing elk or bear, missing that split second that the animal raises its head for that brief "portrait" opportunity, with the view blocked by auto-review; or a sporting event, or flying bird, where the moving subject can completely leave the frame while my view is blocked), I just cannot function like that; when I first experienced it, it made me want to toss the camera to the pavement (luckily I found the "OFF" option instead)!

With all the advantages of the SLT's EVF, it would have been a real deal-breaker for me if I couldn't shut auto-review off. I do review most of my shots, but as others have said, it is very easy to press the review button, when the time is right for me.

I leave it on for 2 secs. I also luv "CHIMPING" my shots. It contributes to the improvement of the final product, IMHO.

I turn it off for sports so I can actually see what I'm taking pictures of during burst mode. Otherwise, 2 sec is great, especially when I can do it without moving my face!
