Hi folks,

I've been waiting for months to buy the new Canon Powershot A300. But now that's it's (about to be) available, I'm not so sure.

My worry is that this camera does not have an optical zoom lens. It comes with a digital zoom, but the more I read about it the less I like it.

Otherwise the camera seems idea for my recreational shooting needs. It's under $200 wth 3.2 megapixels. What's not to like? Granted, I will have to buy about $100 worth of add-ons, such as a 64mb memory card, batteries and charger, and possibly a carrying case.

I'm beginning to think I should spend fifty bucks more and get the A70.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

If the A70 is only 50 bucks more than the A300 it's a no-brainer! Go for the A70!

I have had mine for almost 2 months and it's the best digicam that I've owned! (And the most inexpensive, and that was at the $350 price point..:-)

If the money isn't that big an issue I would go a70. It of course has all the manual controls. Even if you never use them though it has a little faster lens at wide angle. I would get it just for that.

The a300 is one nifty camera. It has a lot of features for what it is thanks to digic across the board. It's good of canon not to cripple it more than they have. If it just had a little faster lens...

Are you sure that you need 3.2 mp???

If you will take the photographies with less resolution, it's better get a camera with 2.0 mp...
