Am looking for an all rounder lens for my 800. Don't need huge zoom but would like some wide angle. Am looking at the Nikor 24-120 F4. For those who have and use this lens with the D800 what has been your experience?

This is one of my favorite lenses on my D600. I like it a lot!!

Did you consider 24-85mm?

Thanks for the response. In looking at on line shots with this cam ..I notice a quite a bit of fringing with high contrast areas- tree limbs against a bright sky. Has this been your experience?

no. Actually was thinking more of the Tamron 28-75 which has a good rep ..but wanted a bit more zoom.

I bought the lens a year ago and I've been very happy with it. It is a bit bulky for a walk-around lens. But the results are easily worth it. Quite sharp wide open. Even the corners sharpen up nicely if you stop down a bit. It is a keeper. Here are a few examples I've taken:

The 24-120f4 is nice lens for my D800E. I use it for walking around and some family events. You can't go wrong.

I have the 17-35, 70-200 2.8, 50 1.8G and 85 1.8G. Yet it is the 24-120 that stays on my D800 ninety percent of the time. I use it for almost everything. Great walk-around lens. I've made some 24x36 prints that look spectacular with this lens.

thanks for this Jim ..Big prints are a main reason I have the D800E so its good to know you have had good success with it ..

Thanks for your input . Heading to the to the southwest US to take some landscape stuff.

all the best
