Graphic Cards...any preferences for Photoshop?

Pamela,

All I can tell you is that the G550 is great for photos! Combined with my new LCD, once calibrated, I am blown away by the quality of the images that are showing up on my monitor. (Unfortunately I did not try out my old video card with the new monitor, so cannot offer an opinion there). Once I get used to working with this combo for a day or two, I plan to add my old monitor to the system.

One thing I did notice was that the Matrox really only has 32MB of RAM. It will play most of the games that I am ever likely to play (not a gamer at all), but it did skip a few frames in a few spots (not a big deal to me, though). It will play back DVDs quite nicely, so I'm not too worried. :-)

Another thing I noticed: I cannot calibrate the LCD if I connect to the Matrox G550 in DVI. Most of the settings become inaccessible, and I cannot get the Spyder to calibrate it adequately. I suspect this is a limitation of either the card, or the monitor. Once I switched back to analogue connection (RGB), I calibrated, and the LCD came to life!
I was looking at the site for the Matrox cards...I saw the P650, I
wrote to them and ask what the difference was in the G and P cards,
they still haven't answered me.

Just ring a computer shop and ask. I usually find that the little
guys do a better job than the big chains with buying stuff that
might be a little special"...
Because of this thread, I now have a Matrox G550 and a Samsung
19" TFT on their way to me (Monday they'll be here).

I hope you're happy with yourselves!... ;-)
