What is the smallest Nex body lens combo?

The new 20mm and the original 16mm are both pretty small. Zeiss also has a couple are are similar in size.

Kind of hard to see, but these are the most current shots I could find of the ine up.

As far as camera's go the original 3 is still the smallest as far as I know.

The C3 is the smallest by a mm or 2, I believe, but doesn't have a built in flash.

I have a used 6 in my basket at B&H, but don't know if I'll pull the trigger because I like the size of the C3. I suppose having both would be nice.

I have the 6 and its a great camera, I just was thinking about a beater. Small and not too expensive so if it has an accident....

Get the smallest NEX body as per their specs and a pinhole cover for the body and you have the Guinness Book of Records smallest NEX there is.

I guess the question then would be, what's the smallest USEFUL Nex body/lens combo. I've tried a pinhole cover on my NEX 5. It was worthless.

...I'm not sure there might be anything smaller than the Color Minotar 35/2.8 ?

than you take your pick of what might be smallest Nex body :)

That's small, but I think it's still bigger than the Perar. Especially since the Perar is collapsible.

the same optical formula - over century old; but then you'd need to account also for the thickness of a M to E adapter;

but what I esp like abt. Perar's design is the focusing lever - the Minotar's focusing ring is so tiny that I find it pretty uncomfortable while attempting a critically quick focus (usually it end in a fumble and more often than I'd care about it... in failure);

Minotar's dimensions:
  • 31mm diameter,
  • 20mm length (25mm if measured with adapter - from the mounting plane to lens' tip);
I guess that you can't shoot Perar in its collapsed position?

But the difference is so small
Camera are funny in that you absolutely MUST get your Hands-on one to make any judgement.I was going to replaced my Nex C3 with the new 3N, until I got my hand on a 3N @Best Buy :(

My impression wasn't good (sorry to say that). Some of my annoyance:
  • LCD cannot tilt down. 3N got rid of the innovative tilt-up/then-down LCD, replacing it with a simple right angle hinge (cheaply made). The LCD no longer pop out, nor can it be tilt down. All it can do now is flip 180. Bad moves, I missed the original LCD on the 3/5/5n/C3 camera
  • GRIP feel Thick/Hard/cheap. Hard grip contribute to a feeling of cheapness. Touching the soft-rubber 5R and it feel like luxury. F3/C3/ even oldest plastic 3 feel very good in my hand, but not this new 3N. Your mileage may vary, so don't take my word for it, you need to try it out to form your own opinion
  • Camera is TALLER. I don't like it, I prefer the shorter design of the C3/5n/5r
I really wanted to like the 3N, but after I got my hand on one, I think 5R would be the better upgrade from C3. If you don't own any NEX camera, I think 3N makes sense. But if you're upgrading from C3, look further.

You did not say that the lens had to be a Sony lens. Therefore I nominate the NEX-5R which is much smaller than the NEX-3N (never mind the advertising hype.) And the lens? I am using the world's smallest lens, the Olympus f8 15mm body-cap lens with a 1/8" thick m43 to e-mount lens adapter. Case closed.

Except that I usually have this on my NEX-3, instead.

You're right. I was mistaken by the press release which stated that the 3N was the smallest APS-C camera in the world. https://blog.sony.com/2013/02/new-sony-alpha-cameras/ "FIRST LOOK at newest Sony Alpha cameras: α58, α NEX-3N (world’s smallest interchangeable lens camera)"

But the C3 is a little smaller. The facts:

http://camerasize.com/compare/#442,118

If you use the tools available on that site to look at the cameras superimposed on each other, the 3N is clearly shorter than the C3, is clearly thinner, and is only as wide if you include the lugs for the strap.

Not what you would feel in your hand. Its weird that the site apparently ignores the protusion that is the shutter button, something a person touches, but includes the strap lugs, something that is irrelevant to the feel of the camera.

looks interesting, they have a 28 also, but they are sold out and if not, $599.00

anyone have those for sale?
take a peek at the German e-buy site, there are usually tons of them over there. But then you'd need to cannibalize such camera, extract the lens, and then locate the Camera-C to NEX adapter somewhere to glue your salvaged Minotar into it permanently:
  • set your lens to infinity;
  • check carefully with calipers that, when you'd put the into adapter's central opening, the front of the lens (at infinity) is no further away than 25mm from the flat mounting surface at the back of the adapter;
  • there should be enough room to allow sideways movement of the lens = you'd need some leeway to set it exactly at the optical dead center axially;
  • check your infinity (securing that there are no light leaks, say, with a tightly squeezed an impromptu tube from alufoil or something like that),
  • and if infinity is OK, then use some slowly curable epoxy putty (you'd need some time to adjust lens axially again before your glue will be allowed to set) to secure the lens permanently;
  • paint the cured epoxy on the inside & outside matte-black for cosmetics and esp. to avoid reflections;
the whole shouldn't cost you more than approx. 50 Euro for combined Minotar, adapter and epoxy - with a luck a lot less (some Minotars - broken but with an intact lenses, can be had just for 1 Eu),

good luck,
