Hotbuyelectronics.com?

I was going to buy something from them until i saw their ratings...
It is not worth the hassle of all the problems you might get with
the order. Also, they are very high on shipping costs. mark
There shipping prices are high but the overall product price is about a hundred and twenty-five bucks less then B&H.

Go figure:-)

What a coincidence ! On Tuesday I placed an order with them on
Sigma 15-30mm for my 10D. Advertised price was $429.98 comparing
with $549 in B&H. Few hours later I got a phone call asking for
"order confirmation", quite a bizzare practice. The guy told me
that for this price I could get a poor quality, plastic version
made in Thailand ?! and he strongly recommended Japanese made
version for $467.98. I am not an expert in this area, so I agreed
especially that it was still much less than at B&H. The lens has
been shipped on Wednesday via FedEx and this afternoon I received
it!!
I immediately connected it to my 10D and shot 10 pictures at home
with excellent results. I am very happy although the lens is heavy
and big.
Warranty card apparently covers US!!
So all together I cannot complain on the service.
I haven't a clue why they do the above with plastic Vs metal versions.

I almost believe the plastic versions don't exist but the overall price is much less then other vendors.

when i called them-- they would not even honor the advertised web shipping prices!!!

I have no idea what the web shipping prices are. I have a simple way of thinking about it. What are the other going to charge me in the final analysis as opposed to the final price by HotBuysElectronics.Com.

In the case of the 16-30mm f/2.8L, my final price was $1,299.00US. Over at B&H, the lens was $1,399.95US and shipping, FedEx 2-day was $23.50US, for a total of $1,423.45US A difference of $124.45US.

The bottom line, that's what I look at. Not how I got there:-)

In the meantime, I have a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L on the way and based upon past performce by HotBuys, I expect to receive the little bugger sometime Tuesday evening:-)

No, he did not I did.
All grey market Sigma lenses come with 1 year warranty.
4 years if it is USA model.
Hot Buys Electronics probably sold him grey market.

Eugene
But you warranty card says 1 year.
All new Sigma USA lenses are 4 years now.
I read, reread and reread a third time. Where did he comment on a
one year warranty:-) For the life of me I couldn't find it:-)

Thanks!

Remind me in a week and canpossibly show everyone the place
where everyone can buy the same lens for about the same price but USA
model.

Ohh yeah, did not get a warranty at all and they delivered only a part order. That is on top of an over billing. Effectively nothing was complete.

The thing to do is buy on credit card.

If the whole order does not come through or the warranty is missing, or you were overcharged after a phone call, return everything immediately and wear the cost of return.

Then take it up with the CC merchant and go for a full refund and chargeback.

I waited and could only argue an overcharge, but since a warranty was important to me, and the additional accessory was important to me, i ought to have returned immediately.

Ring your credit card and they may tell you that a chargeback is possible.
Part delivery perhaps, part of sub order probably, overcharge definitely.
So beware of the phone pressure tactics.
Anyone buy any gear from Hotbuyelectronics.com? They have great
prices on EOS lenses:

So you're guessing. That's okay. But every lens I've purchased from HotBuysElectonics.Com, had a USA warranty in the box. Even the Sigma lenses:-)

Thank you for the argument. It's been getting quite slow around here:-)

Heck! I thought you could only buy Canon on the Gray market:-) I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "Gray Market" Sigma lens.

Yeah, got the same.
Pay a huge increase and huge increase in shipping to get the
Japanese model and not the Thai model.
( It was for a scanner and I cetainly alot of scanners are made in
Thai now)

So beware of the phone pressure tactics.
And beware of the final price everybody else is charging. Why? So you realize that no matter what the sales technique, you know that you're getting the best price:-)

After all, from a consumer's point of view, it's all about price and service.

I received a part order once. That's because the other part was on back order and a few days later, the missing part of the order came in.

Maybe you should buy from B&H where they, overall, charge you more? At least you'll be happy:-)

I tried buying some Sigma stuff from them on a couple occasions, but they were "out of stock" on both times after I refused to take the bait of Japanese vs. Thailand, etc. nonsense, because obvious, there is no made-in-Thailand Sigma EX lens! For the price for Japanese, i.e. non-vaporware , that they quote you, you can get at reputable places such as DeltaInternational for about the same price. B&H for whatever seem to have higher price on Sigma stuff than many other places.

That is my point.
They get you to ring in, and will not accept email.

They talk you into a higher price and then do not tell you they are not going to deliver all at once. Kinda convenient.

Who would want to deal with people like this.
Even if they got it right and supplied a fundamental warranty.

It would be way better to go 2nd or 3rd cheapest and avoid the hassles. The wannabe's that know they cannot match that price without underhanded dealings.

The point is they are very cheap but YES there is a caveat, YES watch out, YES there is a price to pay and it may be you that pays, that they will select some buyers (overseas buyers perhaps ?) and try to pressure them.

You may be lucky, a simple lense may be worth the risk, but it could be refurbished too, coz you do not know with management that select their employees based upon their ability to phone pressure talk people. They could be capable if anything and their policies suggest so.

What are you talking about. If I have a question about an order, I give them a call. The order that was sent in two shipments, was done so because it was out of stock and backordered for a few days.

Sorry, it's not a crime to be out of stock on an item a customer may order. By the by, they told me it was out of stock and on backorder:-)
Who would want to deal with people like this.

I would as I care about two things. Do I get the item at the final agreed upon price and does it get delivered on the agreed upon date. How everything else transpires, isn't important.

There are no hassels. You're now making stuff up.

Gee! And there's caveat's with everything and everybody.

talk people. They could be capable if anything and their policies

And you have a reason to say the above? The lens comes with a Canon warranty and has the feel of never been opened and you want to say it's a conspriacy.

I think you're capbable of anything and I believe that you're deceptive and I believe that you're not responsible for anything you write.

This is fun.

I too have brought off DeltaInt.
I was impressed with the level of service and honesty.
I want to buy there again but ...........

The camera when arrived was playing up in the LCD display.
First think it said was "Err".

Also I'm not sure that factory defaults were set, suggesting someone had played with the camera.
Eventually i needed to get it services when it died about 2 months later.
Maybe it got a knock during delivery.

Whereas i think they are a good company to buy off, I'm left wondering if perhaps the camera was refurbished or used by staff for a while.

Has anyone got a similar uneasy feeling about a NEW camera from DeltaInt ???

Right now I'm likely to risk purchasing off them again , it stands to reason they cannot road test all of their cameras and have all refurbished cameras can they, but who knows ........
