This lens is too large for me but sees action once in a while and every time I see the results, I am impressed even more. Here are a few clicked recently:

After the long wait for the upgraded version, I am still considering this one. I like the closer focusing ability and truer 200mm. As your pics show, the optical quality is very good. Have you ever considered a monopod? It might not limit you too much in your environmental portraiture. Since I no longer need it for indoor ice skating (my daughter is going to college), I might not mind the slower af system so much. Thank you for sharing your images.

I had also the old version and am considering to get another. I too liked the close focusing ability and the overall optical quality. I had to sell to afford the D600 but it was a tough one. Plus, it was relatively light.

The Tamron 70-200mm is real sleeper lens. If you can work without VR, and don't need lightning fast AF, this is the lens for you. Most of my work is shot on a tripod, the subjects are static. I have always been impressed with the optical quality of this lens. It replaced my ten year old Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 push pull version. A great lens, but the lack of built in tripod collar, meant I had to cart around a third party lens support. Optically, I prefer the Tamron...

Beautiful color/contrast from that lens, and excellent images. Thanks for sharing.

I was so torn between the new version of the Tamron, the 70-200 2.8 VC and my current lens, the Nikon 70-200 f4G VR. I'm extremely happy with my choice, but I wouldn't mind testing the new Tamron in the future.

Regards, and happy shooting, Markus
