Not as far as I know. There a a few lenses with a zoom lock but they are all much larger and they often only lock at the lowest focal length.Imamul89 wrote:
Yesterday, when I tried to put the front lens cap on the 18-55 VR lens, the front portion moved in and the selected focal length changed. Is this normal? Is there any way to lock in the focal length of the lens?
It's perfectly normal. If it were so tight you couldn't push it, it would be too tight to use the zoom ring when you wanted to. You could put the hood on and leave the cap in your pocket while walking around. I keep the front cap in the box the lens came in so I won't lose it when it becomes time to sell it, if that ever came about. I just don't use them. You have to worry about where they are and when they are gong to pop off. You have to worry about where to store them when you're shooting.Imamul89 wrote:
So it's normal? I thought something was broken in the lens.
Nah.. you're good. That 18-55 might be Nikon's most cheaply built lens, yet it's still pretty tough. Most all Nikon gear is tougher than it needs to be. Nikon has a good reputation for being able to take a little abuse.Imamul89 wrote:
Thank you. I was scared for a moment that I had broken my less-than-a-half-week-old lens.
