I received my Nikon Coolpix P330 today (€329/$424)!

The reason I picked up the P330 is because I wanted a small point-and-shoot with built-in GPS and RAW functionality. The camera basically will be used on city trips and my girlfriend needs to be able to operate it as well. You get the idea. I had to make compromises and at the end this was the most interesting deal.

Note: At first we were in the market for the Canon S110 but the S110 does not have built-in GPS and is more expensive. And no, I skipped on the S100.

So anyway, I'm still at the office but here's a shot of the box and camera. Does anyone have picture requests? I am going to play around with the camera this week and can share some pictures.

For our Dutch readers, bol.com is offering both the black and white model for €329.

Best of luck with your new purchase! The Canon S series has also had a long running series of QC issues especially with the lens mechanism. Hopefully the Nikon will not emulate those issues.

I would very much appreciate images that show the cameras ability to reproduce skin tones both with ambient outdoor light and with the flash. Images with grass that separate cameras that smear images would also be appreciated.

Needless to say both low ISO images and higher ISO images.

Comments on AF speed and general responsiveness would be appreciated.

Flash distance capability at reasonable ISOs.

The cameras capability of balancing fill flash with ambient light exposures in daylight situations.

HDR images. Shutter lag comments.

Thank you!

Jimr

Felicitaties van een mede-polderbewoner en aanstaande P330-gebruiker! :-) Dat is inderdaad een mooie prijs van bol. Dat maakt de P330 nu de beste 1/1.7 prijs-prestaties camera, schat ik.

Back to English:

Can you please try the cam in low light indoors and outdoors? Preferably without the focus assist-beam? That way we know what it is capable of in terms of focusing speed and noise.

Different cameras have different behaviour. Lots of them push up the iso, bc they kind off mastered high iso noise, but other cameras tend to keep iso down and drop the shutter speed (in auto-mode). So can you check how the P330 behaves in that regard?

Dank/Thanks !

First impressions are good!

There are two things that worry me after my first test drive. The overall build quality is fine but the zoom control feels kind of cheap. Better avoid heavy usage! Seriously have to be careful with that little rotary.

Second thing is something probably related to the firmware (version 1.0). It sometimes feels a bit slow when browsing through the menu or taking a picture in low light conditions. I am not shooting in RAW right now so it might be related to some post processing work the camera has to perform. My settings are 'Fine', 12MP.

Oh, and, Nikon has no manual yet to download!

Anyway, I am going to continue explore the options and will share some pictures tomorrow night.

Remember I am not an experienced user so I am reading the P310 manual now to learn about some functionality and basic photography terms.

Have already seen some sample images with NR set to the default setting which I think is Normal as for the the P310.

By using NR Low more finedetails gets preserved. Might be interesting to see how it comes out. At leas tthe P310 did nicely.

Yes, Low gives better detail, especially when combined with Picture control set to Neutral instead of Standard.

Villalobos: My request is for video! In particular, I'd like to see how it handles auto focus and auto exposure. I know the 7700 isn't so great in that regard, going by what's on youtube. Maybe 1 indoor, 1 outdoor scene? If indoor is quiet, we can judge zoom noise too. Much appreciated if you could put that on youtube or otherwise, thanks.

Ok, will do so! I am very busy with work this week but I'll try to record some video and take some pictures tonight.

I am waiting your photos by P 330 so I could make decision and order it from Amazon.

Give the guy a break. He's got to do it in between work, women and whatever. He said he would post them, so he will.

The only guy in the world who's received a P330 and he's too busy to shoot with it. I say that with all respect but, really man, send it to me, I'll shoot the heck out of it and even give YOU a report.

Yes, it's a very busy week. Just got back home from a long day at the office... it's almost 10PM. I'll have some time this weekend. For now one to start with.

This is in my living room with the camera in my hand and everything on auto.

You're just messing with us now. Take a pic of the book you read when you get into bed, that'll give us a good idea of how good the P330 takes pics of books!

You know, you could take your camera to work with you and at least shoot out the window on occasion. Or maybe not.

Just having fun here, but, ya know, a lot of point and shoot buyers erroneously get one strictly to shoot indoors, of kids and doggies playing, like that's what point and shoots are for, ya know, shooting indoors. My believe is that's what DSLRs are for. You do shoot outdoors on occasion, don't you? Let's see it!

The photos look good, but the exif data is gone so we don't know what the camera did!

Can you please make sure the exif stays in the photos when you resize them? Thanks

Agreed. But at least the slight oversharpening at full size remember a lot about the P7700, (which have the same sensor) sample images, although not quite that bad ;) Luckily there is sharpening parameters to turn the default sharpening to what it in fact should be. Well, unless they've changed that from the P310 but I can't see why Nikon would do that.
