I purchased the Toshiba PDR-M4 on December 27, 1999 at a Best Buy in California. Within 6 months of owning it, the control knob popped off. Not being near a Best Buy here in NY at the time, I was informed that I need to send the camera to Precision Camera & Video Repair in MA, which I did on July 29, 2000.

After much persistence on my part, it took 3 months to get the camera - not my original one mind you, not even a new one but a REFURBISHED one!

After losing plenty of time & money wasted already, I continued to use it.

Anyways, it broke again this February 2001 and apparently it's not covered by my warranty. I need to pay almost $200 out of pocket to have it repaired!

I've owned this camera longer broken, then actually working.

It appears Toshiba is making quite a bit of extra money from the many complaints I've seen on-line of this product (including this forum) from their faulty design & poor customer service.

Problems:

Dial knob popped off after 6 months & then received a refurbished camera that broke after 4 months.
