Yep. It's a ringer...
In doing boatloads of research on many different cameras, I had finally decided to go with the G2 instead of the G3. I wasn't really prepared to kick out $800 on a camera that was going to be a stepping stone for me. Wtih the G2 being discontinued, I acquired it at a reasonable price, and have been very impressed with the results.
I'm not a professional, but I do have an idea of what looks good, and the images I'm getting out of this thing are quite impressive.
In doing my research, I had learned that the casing developed cracks in the corners of the camera, specifically the upper left corner on the back, if I'm not mistaken. To possibly help eliminate the risk of that happening, I have not put the camera strap on, and either have the camera in my hands, or in my belt case or hard case.
Fingers crossed on that one...
I almost always shoot in the RAW format. It's kind of a pain converting the data, but the end results are impressive.
For those who are somewhat new to DC's and decide to pick up a G2, do yourself a favor...plug in the camera to let it charge--while it's charging, read the manual. It can be a fairly steep learning curve from a point-and-shoot DC...and with all the features it has to offer, you might as well learn as much about it as possible...
Great camera, great images, great price!!
What more is there?
Problems:
The optical zoom is a little touchy, but with a little time becomes a minimal problem.
Still watching for stress cracks in the casing...
