I still forgot to thank the creators of this great site. The combination of very technical info and tests at one side and the owner's reviews at the other side were really very helpfull in making my choice!
Reacting on the owner's review of "sunday",I would like to say that I too had some "flat" pictures taken. But this always happened in the auto modus(the green camera icon). In the M/A/S modus, playing with diaphragm/exp.time etc. ,it is my experience that sometimes a dull, uninteresting view in real life can be transformed in a great picture, rich in contrast.
Problems:
For months,I have been reading and RE-READING all the owner's reviews of as well the Fuji 602 zoom (wich seems to be discontinued),the Coolpix 5700,the Minolta Dimage7H/7Hi,and the Sony DSC-F717.Isuddenly realised that Idid not want to spend around 1300 Euro's for a camera that has the building quality of a child's toy with paint and rubbers coming off,and cracking compartment doors after just some weeks of use(Read them owner's reviews of the Minolta!)
The Fuji is a great camera with lots of features(it certainly has the best handgrip of 'em all)but seems tobe getting a bit behind with its three MP.Also, it has a fixed LCD screen and no rotatable body either so that if you want to make pictures of small flowers an insects in the grass you have to lie down yourself. The Coolpix looks like a fine camera but without the great low light properties of the Sony. Wich brings me to the pro's:
1)You can always make pictures of whatever you want, even in absolute darkness.Only in very rare occasions the camera has a focusing problem.(the AF hologram works at its best on aflat area)
2)Fantastic image q.uality('till this very day the best in its class)
3)Outstanding batterylife
4)User friendly knobs and buttons and menu that makes you get to know the camera in an intuitive way, without even reading the manual(at least that is my opinion,I was able to make great pictures within the first hours, things I never could have done with my "prehistoric" Canon AE 1 analog SLR.
The cons:
1)right hand grip too small, camera does not feel comfortable when taken in one hand.
2)Zoom area should be bigger(28 to 250 or so,Do not tell me Zeiss cannot do that)
3)flash tends to overexpose even at its lowest setting
4)No image stabiliser.
Which brings me to my big question:it is beyond comprehension for me that there is NO manufacturer 'till now that comes up with a 5MP,10X zoom(28-280),large(at least 2.5 inch)swivel out LCD screen, and last but not least:an IMAGE STABILISER!
When that happens,it is going to be a setback to all of us owners of newly bought digital cameras!
