I upgraded from the S1, and I am not disappointed. The S2 is capable of quite superb results. Its particular strengths are
- low noise. Up to 400 ISO noise is very low. 800 and 1600 ISO are distinctly useable;
- Great out of camera colour. In fact, excellent image quality generally;
- class-leading resolution; the super CCD is not just hype, it really does deliver;
- It is a particularly impressive portrait and macro camera. Poster size macro and portrait images look like they were taken on 6x7 camera;
- Easy menu system;
- Firewire download.
In summary, a fine instrument, and excellent value for money.
Problems:
No problems as such, but naturally it would be nice if a camera of this quality had a stronger "pro" body, and 1/3 of a stop exposure compensation, in place of the more limiting 1/2 a stop. But these are minor niggles in what is otherwise in my opinion an outstanding camera.
