I have owned 6 digital cameras for the past 4-5 years. Sony P8 is my latest one (bought in Sep 03). I feel that I should share my digital cameras experience with you. I have been using camera (single len reflex , automatic and digital) for almost 20 years. I am very picky about image quality. This is my first time I post a review.

The reason I brought this camera because, it is very compact and nice looking camera. I finally figure out that having a big camera is not the way to go when I travel. I bought Nikon Coolpix 4500 last year, thought, this would be my last digital camera for the years to come but I was wrong. It is very heavy and too big to carry around. I also still have a Olympus 2100 UZ which give excellent images but again too big for traveling. I just want to mention to you that, if you want to buy a digital camera for traveling, don't buy a big one unless you don't mind carrying a heavy bag. It would become more heavy that you would think by the end of the day. I have learn the hard way.

I finally came to the point that, I really need a tiny small camera that would fit in my pocket. At first I wasn't sure about Sony P8 camera. I did intensive research from different places (web sites) for a week and feel that the sample images from P8 were not as good as Nikon Coolpix 2500 or Nikon Coolpix 3500. Since I owned a Coolpix 2500 before ( I gave Coolpix 2500 to my brother) I knew the images are great. I was thinking really hard whether I should get the Nikon Coolpix 3500 or the Sony P8. One day I went to a mall and found a really good deal on the P8 and thought, can't beat it, I can try for 15 days if I don't like I still have chance to return it (-15% open box). I was really hesitate to open the box for at least five days (you can tell how skeptical I was). Finally I said to my self, I need to try it out. The first set of images I took around the house, was satisfactory. Even thought some images will show you some pixel at the low light or shadow area, the images are super sharp. I feel I can live it it. Close up is also very good (not as good as the coolpix 2500 or 4500 but good enough). It wasn't as bad as I was worry about. The only thing that I feel that they should improve is that most out door images have a little blue thin in them. I could correct this with Photoshop. Other than that, it is the ideal camera. Battery life is great ( I heard many people said the battery life was bad, I experience differently) I could take a full 128 MB card with one charge (with LCD on, sometime with flash, and image viewing). I would say to conserve battery, turn camera "off" if you do not use it.

I am very please with this camera!
