After using Nikon digitals for 4 years now I have to say I'm quite impressed with the E1's image quality. Seems with my D1x I'm always fighting to keep detail in the highlights. No such problems with the E1. The Oly's meter is great and the dynamic/tonal range of the camera exceeds any digital slr I've used so far. Also the images from the E1 have a beautiful, film-like quality that continue to impress me. Build quality is very nice and the two lenses I own (14-54 and the 50-200) have delivered impressive results even compared to Nikon pro glass. Prints up to 11x14 have been beautiful and if the E1's test target results show tiny discrepancies in image quality compared to some other dslr's I can assure you that they are more than minor in the real world and do not show in printed photos.
Personally I only have one nit with the E1 and that's focus speed. It's quick in normal situations and not bad in low light. Problem is Olympus is calling this a pro camera and the E1 does not focus with the best in class Canon 1d and Nikon D1 series cameras. Especially with moving targets. Still the camera will hold it's own with the D100 and 10d when it comes to autofucus speed which isn't bad. All in all this is a fine camera worthy of praise and I highly recommend it. -Mike
