I purchased a used D1 in Nov 2002 and have been using it for several commercial/portrait and photojournlism assignments. I have found at the low ISO (200/400) it is an excellent camera. I also recently picked up Genuine Fractals software and can enlarge the files dramatically without loss of resolution. The combination of the two work very well. The one problem I have is at the high ISO settings, expecially 1600. I shoot a lot of high school sports and the banding is bothersome. Using "Dust and Speckles" in Photoshop before sharbening helps some with this problem. I prefer the random noise pattern (at ISO 1600) of the D100 over the D1. But at the lower ISO settings, the two are a tossup. And with the technical capbilities of the D1 (5 frames/sec, 1/500 flash synch, 1/16000 shutter), I prefer the D1 for my pj work.
Problems:
No real problems as yet. The camera was in good condition when I bought it and it is performing well. I bought two additional batteries and find the battery life really stinks. If I am shooting all day, I am really glad to have 3 batteries.
