I owned a Canon A70 for six months, and couldn't get beyond the Canon A70's poor red-eye on every shot, extremely soft pictures, and grainy indoor pictures. All the manual features in the world cannot compensate for a camera that takes poor pictures (Poor Lens/Image Processing). This is my third digi-cam and it is an outstanding overall value. Like everyone here, I did a lot of research and spent hours upon hours in stores trying to stretch the limitations of digital cameras in the 300-400 price range.

The DX6440 takes great pictures indoors and outdoors, the pictures are sharp, vibrant and very accurate colors. Virtually no red-eye effects on pictures. Flash is powerful. The movie mode takes servicable movies with great sound.

Another requirement I needed to meet was taking sports/action pics. The camera has a very fast click/capture response. although there is a couple second wait between pics (excpet in burst mode), the autofocus quickly adjusts and captures the image..no more empty court shots where my kids just made a fantastic play 2 seconds ago.

The docking station offers its obvious advantages to USB/DC PS cable hookups and the supplied software is nice.

Overall this is the best point/shoot camera I have tested combining the advantages of clear, sharp, vibrant pictures with fast response. The camera has a lot of manual features for experimenting in differnt settings and at the same time shoots great pictures right out of the box. Battery life is great (I don't use the LCD screen to shot pcitures). Now, I have to find one of those canon fanatics to sell my A70 to.

Problems:

The battery and Memory door looks somewhat flimsy, no problems yet.

Any user programmed settings (EV/White Balance etc...) is reset back to system defaults every time the camera is powered down.
