I've been using this camera for three weeks now and here's my (albeit beginners) opinion.

Construction;
A lot has been said here already about this but....
It's plastic. I knew it was plastic when I purchased it and later discovered it's built around a stainless steel chassis (which makes me a lot happier) but it works well & feels pretty solid to handle. It is textured and does act as a nail file (as mentioned by another reviewer) so expect dust and white residue everytime you use it. On the flip side it is light and feels secure in the hand.

I'm marking construction down because of two things, one the body rattles, it's not the orientation sensor as suggested elsewhere but the arms on the flash unit. My Powershot S30 doesn't rattle so why should an SLR at this price?! Secondly the kit lens is really bad (construction-wise). Switch to manual focus and watch the barrel wobble.....Apparently Canon don't sell them seperately, which I suspect is because they wouldn't be able to.

Size
The smaller and lighter it is the more likely it's going to be carried and used. Fits in my hands well and begs to be picked up and pointed. People seem to moan about the size being too small.... try it with a compact zoom before passing judgement.

The Set Button
Yes, you have to press it when changing ISO, White Balance etc from the buttons. So what? I've lmanaged to learn to press it before hitting the shutter release....

Features
More than I need at the moment and after three weeks use I'm still finding new ones -it's going to be a steep learning curve after a compact but everything is accesible

Image Quality
Spot on -enough said

Problems:

Kit Lens -optically I couldn't find fault (untrained eye), mechanically I was embarresed to have it on the camera

Software -can't upload to the camera using the camera window, nothing I've done has sorted it out
