Devastated. After waiting for 6 months and reading the few reviews that were available I am gutted to say the least. I really thought this was going to be an outstanding camera but in my opinion it falls well short of it.
It is a really good camera and will probably be well liked by most users . Owning an F717 and using a F828 this is probably the reason for my disappointment.
Answer is Carl Zeiss. There isn’t one on the H1 and this well designed camera is let down badly without a Carl Zeiss lens. Maybe it was to keep the price down I don’t know but be very careful if you are looking for really good detail in your pictures.
On close up pictures the H1 is really good but a bit saturated.
On landscape pictures My H1 failed big time.
Instant reaction was wow they look good but then look at the small detail and it is smudged.
I took two identical pictures one H1 and one F717. The fine detail on the F717 was clear to see.
I tried both again in landscape mode with similar results. The H1 was on both occasions very saturated with the pictures looking really good but not natural.
Same again with two portrait shots. Wife liked the H1 as her spots had disappeared unlike the 717 it showed great detail.
The above sounds really bad. Don’t be put off if you are into point and shoot pictures or fun pictures but if its detail you want be careful. Wait on dp review getting their review up on the site.
Every thing else about the H1 is superb. Great controls and all at the touch of a finger.
Summing up the H1 is a very well designed camera without a Carl Zeiss quality finish.
