From the day I purchased the Canon 10D I was disappointed in the lack of clarity, but constrained by budget. For a free-lance architectural photographer starting out, there was no mid-priced option until the 5D entered the scene. I am extremely pleased with the image clarity and dynamic range of this camera. I no longer need to take several exposures, using Photoshop to blend the best portions of the highlight and shadow areas. This saves considerable time and media storage space. The 2.5 inch LCD...enough said. Canon's Digital Photo Professional software is an incredible improvement over RAW Convertor. With so much control the images are nearly perfect before they even reach Photoshop. I highly recommend this camera to any professional whose billable rates cannot justify a $10,000 package like the 1DS Mark II, but who also needs professional quality.
Problems:
As with all interchangeable SLRs, the "dust" issue is unpleasant. After each shoot I spend time cloning out specs of debris that landed on the image sensor. After scratching the sensor of my last camera I developed a healthy fear that has prevented me from trying to clean it as of yet. The rubber covers for the shutter release cable and other ports is rather irritating to open, so mine stays open.
