Although the 100mm-300mm lens might be somewhat sharper than the 45-200mm lens (pictures posted in the micro 4/3 forum suggest that), I have used my 45-200mm to take pictures of a high school play from row Q. Shooting at ISO 800 hand held, wide open, the pictures were certainly sharp enough for me! They appear tac sharp when filling the screen on my monitor, and will certainly make tac sharp 8x10 prints. Focus is fast and works very well with "face detect" focus mode.
If I magnify a picture to 100% to pixel peep, I can imagine that it could be crisper, but detail is there and I am quite satisfied. Due to the 2x crop factor, this lens is "equivalent" to 90-400mm in terms of filling the frame. For that performance it is remarkably small and light, more than adequately sharp, and at about $280 - about half the price of the 100-300mm lens - it is certainly a really good value.

Hey Joe!

I am considering buying this lens for the Lumix DMC GH3. It seems that everyone agrees that this lens is a good bang for your buck, but I do hear this complaining of quality control. Do you think you could post some photos you took from row Q at ISO 800?

Thanks,

J
