I eagerly awaited this small wonder-camera and enjoyed using it (with the optional EVF) immensely. The 35mm lens is a dream and the EVF is a break-through in that technology - even better than Olympus' EVF finally.

At f/2 the camera / lens are the best compact pair money can buy right now. It's when you start using the camera for other things that the camera becomes a bit less interesting. I own the excellent RX100 and when I started using the RX1 for landscapes and at f/5.6 and higher I just couldn't see much difference between it and the much, much cheaper and smaller and lighter RX100!! (This is for me - others may be quite different.) At this point I started looking what almost $4,000 could buy me and decided that the A99 with a 35mm f/1.4 would give me even less DOF wide open and the option to use excellent Sony / Zeiss glass on a full frame sensor.

Sure, the A99 is MUCH bigger than the RX1 but the RX100 is much smaller, has more FL options and works just perfect for climbing, hiking, skiing and my adventure photography. For formal landscapes and people shots the A99 with some fast glass will be perfect too.

So for my needs, the RX1 was just a bit too niche. For hard core street shooters this camera is a dream though! Silent shutter, small, FF creamy bokeh, excellent high ISO and a perfect FL for street shooters.

Problems:

Really the only problem right now is cost. It's a one-of-kind camera and it's an amazing piece of technology so even the cost isn't really a 'problem' the way most people see it. The focus could be a bit quicker.
