I am over the moon, I sent my D800 to Nikon Sydney 3 weeks ago and got my camera back today with all focus points centre, left and right spot on. 0 adjustment required to my lens and here are some shots straight out of the camera.

1. 70mm Left focus point

2. 24mm Centre focus

3. 24mm Right focus

4. 24mm Left focus

5. 70mm Right focus

6. 70mm Centre focus

My confidence and faith in Nikon is restored 100%, I now have in my hands one of the best cameras out there.

Good to see that left focus problem is more something of the past, and nearly no one is having that issue anymore but if you do, take your camera in, Nikon can and has the fix. Cheers

Thank you for the feedback - very encouraging for those with a miscalibrated D800.

Also if I may ask: any focusing difference when taking pictures of a scene illuminated by incandescent light ?

I can certainly relate to the feeling; it is exactly how I felt last Thursday when I got my camera back from its second trip to Nikon Canada, with totally consistent AF across the matrix and no need to even turn on the AF fine tune. The relief that came with the awareness that I will no longer have to contend with the problem, and the joy of realizing that I can now fully absorb my attention in learning how to get the best out of this amazing camera, conspired to create an overwhelming feeling of elation.

While I remain a bit concerned about the fact that they returned the camera to me the first time in worse condition than it was in to begin with -- showing an odd lack of service QC and testing of the repair -- I am happy that they stepped their efforts up a notch and did a fully proper job the second time around. And I completely agree about your last point!

Just waiting now for mine to come back, the second time from Nikon Canada. Hoping for an equally good result. Certainly worse after the first try.

the AF is now consistently good whether the light is natural or incandescent.
Thank you for this feedback. My D800e clearly focuses very differently between incandescent and natural light. I've never really believed those who claims "all cameras do that", or other supposedly explanation to make it sound acceptable, but feedback such as yours help confirm that.

There is only solution: the camera will soon be on its way to a Nikon service center.

And there is only one acceptable outcome: that it focuses properly regardless of the light.

Better get going putting all the evidence together photos etc :-)

Please do let the members of this forum know how it goes, (hopefully) goot or bad. Good luck !

With all the bad experience quite a few posters have had regarding sending their cameras in a few times
and
still not happy, I have been a bit reticent to send my camera and I have waited 8 months before biting the bullet and I was still quite pessimistic & was also entertaining the thought about 'what if' and all sorts of eventual decisions were crossing my mind, so when the camera came back
properly fixed, that's why I used the expression over the moon.

Could you please delete or block my ex username “lanef”. I have stopped using it because the email address listed was hit with spams and that was highlighted by DPR too. So I have chosen a new email address and change my user name to “lanefau”. But each time I use my tablet, it defaults to “lanef” and here it is causing some confusion as I am the same person posting on two different usernames. On my computer it defaults to ‘lanefau” which I want and am using, but on my tablet it is a different story, so please could you block the username ‘lanef’

Just tried under incandescent and fluorescent light and it seems to work well.

And it is just the right expression for the feeling of release from ever having to deal with any of those dire 'what if' scenarios!

There was always a plan B in my mind: Jumping ship which would be at some lost, but I was prepared as it was not possible for me to send the camera back multiple times and having to argue my case. Anyway, thank God that did not eventuate. So my feeling now, never buy a new model in the first 6 or 10 months. Learnt my lesson :-D

The grass is always greener. I've had similar issues with Canon and a 1DIIIs that had to go back multiple times for focus issues and having to prove my case to Canon. And I've had issues with Phase One and a digital back that had multiple issues.

So, this confirms my new state of mind, what for a few months before buying a new model.
