Anyone know what adapter to use for the 53mm f2 Topcon UV (not RE) lens to a Nex system?

I got a T2-Nex adapter because it has the same register distance as an Exacta mount but can't get infinity with it. Then I read that the UV has a different register distance from the RE Topcon/Exacta lenses AFTER I bought the lens!

There's no commercial adapter available, but a combination of two will work (if you can find them), and a DIY option is possible:

Thank you for the replies.

Unfortunately I am not a DIY person. I might ruin a good lens in the process.

Strange that no one has made an adapter for a Topcon UV lens considering that

the brand is not that obscure.

Yes, it's certainly possible. There are numerous adapters made for the DKL mount (Kodak Retina Reflex S/III/IV, Voigtlander Bessamatic/Ultramatic), and those have exactly the same technical problems to overcome.

I know thread is a bit old, but while looking for unexpensive lenses for my pentax k-01 I found a Topcor lens, I knew absolute nothing about them and I started my research. I found them to be top quality as per many photo-forums so next step was trying to find an adapter. And I found it, manufactured by a company call Fotodiox http://www.fotodioxpro.com/. I did not see one for sony nex in their page but BH has one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...exa_nex_p_adapter_for_exakta_topcon_lens.html . I hope you still have your Topcon!

There are two quite different Topcon lens mounts.

The one you found is for the Exakta type, and on the whole the best Topcon lenses are those with this mount. (There are also some good East German lenses for Exakta mount.)

The UV Topcors are for a line of cameras that had a leaf shutter just behind the lens. These are the ones for which no adapter has been made. There was an adapter made by Topcon themselves for fitting these lenses to the Exakta bayonet, but it is very rare.

Ok then the good ones are the TOPCOR independently of the UV or RE denomination. I thought after reading some forums that the worth it, was the RE Line (Topcor), being the UV (Topcon) the economical line, but following treats Topcon/Topcor denomination equal, just clarifying if it is UV or RE.

Quote"The UV Topcors were the "economical" line of lenses (according to Antonetto's 'Topcon Story'), and were first made for the leaf shutter Wink Mirror E in 1961. Later, they were modified to fit the focal plane shutter cameras known as the Uni, Unirex, and Auto 100 . The last camera to accept UV lenses was the IC-1. Although they were of consistently high quality, they were not the professional lenses made for the pro RE models discussed above. They were also slower. They do not command the prices of the RE Auto Topcors, either. Again, they are not interchangable with the RE designated Topcors. Be sure to check the mounting system/adapter for your camera before purchasing." Unquote

These are the ones I have found:

1) Topcor UV 200mm F4 http://berazategui.olx.com.ar/vendo-lente-iid-623810194 about USD 35.-

2) And Topcor RE 55mm F1.7 http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-509975290-topcor-55mm-117-muy-buen-estado-_JM about USD 30.-

Anyway it is a pity there are no adapters this end and imports are restricted.

Just few notes...

Topcon was the company, Topcor was the brand. Something like - Ricoh vs Rikenon or Nikon vs Nikkor e.g.

Topcor RE 55/1.7 is not Auto Topcor RE (or early R) and thus not a lens made by Topcon. It was OEM manufacturer, most probably Cimco or Cosina.

There is no commercially available adapter for Topcon UV lenses for E-mount, but if you find cheap Topcon Unirex canera or similar made for UV lenses (they are usually dirty cheap), you might take mounting part out of it and make your own adapter. One of those attempts were for sale and you might find some more. click here for ebay link I made mine that way.

Lenses that are famous are Topcor 58/1.8 (one of the sharpest lenses ever made at that FL) and 58/1.4, not as sharp as f/1.8 but amazing colors/contrast. Ther are few rare Topcors such as 20/4 or 100 macro with auto tube that are very expensive. Topcon also made Topcors for Leica mount BTW.

If you want real Topcor quality and distinction, you will need to spend a bit more than 35 USD and look for Kogaku Auto Topcon RE (or R) lenses...

The 58/1.4 is just as sharp, superb lens.

The 28/2.8 seems to be quite good, as is the 35/2.8 & the 100/2.8, the 135/3.5 is also superb.

Yup, Topcor-S 50/2 Which I have is a wonderful lens, Sharp wide open(like most Topcor's)

The RE's are a safe bet.

I was interested to compare UV Topcon lenses with similar Nikon lenses. Use Topcon camera aperture ring and M42 camera cover I made a converter. Put it with the UV Topcon lens and M42 to NEX converter I was able to use this lens. The infinity worked OK.

The UV Topcon lenses are sharper. I use extension tube to take macro up to 4:1. All 53mm, 100mm and 135mm Topcon lenses are better than some other lenses.

When I bought the UV lenses for more testing I had some more camera bodies. So I took the aperture rings off the cameras, I made total 15 this converters. I am using three and started to sell them in Ebay. I listed last night and sold two in one day. There are some Topcon lovers there looking for the adapter!

I made 14 UV Topcon to m42 adapters, keep two to convert my lenses to standard 42 mount. Sold 12 on ebay to share with Topcon fans. People are very happy to use them. I created a group in flickr, for people exchange their experience of UV lenses. Please visit and join discussion at: www.flickr.com/groups/Topcon

Sharper than what lenses?

I wish I had seen your adapter for sale, oh well, I'm perfectly happy with my Exakta mount Topcor lenses, as a fan of Topcon, I wanted to say thanks for making the adapter so that they can again see some use.

At least sharper than Nikkor AI-S 50mm F1.8 at macro. For normal use the difference is not visible. I grew up with manual lenses so I still like manual lenses with large aperture. You could control focus very accurately. You Topcor must be RE lens, said to be better than UV Topcon.

I have R and RE lenses.

Nice macro shots, I particularly like the pollen shot, I'm curious as to your setup to get that magnification.

Does anyone know Accurately and Verified, the TOPCON UV register? [Flange Distance]. If you do, please specify from where is the measurement [preferably if it is from the lens].
On the few sources on the web, you will find both 54mm and 55mm from the lens. Which is it? THANKS.

The differences you're seeing may be due to the fact that the very end of the lens isn't the mounting surface. Like Canon New FD and Miranda, this is recessed inside the rear of a UV (or Hi) lens. On the camera the front of the raised ring with the outer bayonet flanges is the mounting surface, not the larger outer one.
