I am at work, but it looks like Fedex just delivered my X20 (coming from Malaysia). I won't get to play with it until I get home Tonight though. Am I the first regular person in the US to get it (by regular I mean non-Review people)?

Whoopee! Please post some samples when you have time. Many of us seem to be prowling the new X20 threads here!

Exciting! I have no dog in this hunt, but curious as to where you pre-ordered from?

Congrats Absolutic on your new toy ….. Santa must be working overtime! It'll be very interesting to read your comments and view your photos as I await and await and await and await for mine …..

Cheers!

I got mine yesterday at 9:30 AM here in New York. So it looks like I may have edged you out, and I think we may have ordered from the same seller. I didn't want to wait for the silver and all in all I'm really happy I got the black, even though I now have an unopened LHF-X20S Lenshood set from Japan that I have no use for. Doh.

My newest "toy" arrived yesterday.

Congrats. I know you are going to love it. Lightroom 4.4 works great with RAF files, the camera is a beauty, and AF works great, and the VF is very nice.

I'm working on a low-light AF test video now in Final Cut. And I think you are going to be pleased as I know your most often asked question was "how is the AF in low-light?". I'm happy to say that AF hardly ever hunts indoors. It's been raining all day and dark and dreary indoors, and the camera X20 didn't have any problems locking on my test targets.

Anyway, enjoy.

All the best and happy shooting, Markus

Yep I got the black one too.

My observations are from someone who did not own Fuji X10, or any Fuji X camera. In fact, I have not owned a Fuji camera in several years. So I am a newbie when it comes to Fujis. I can only compare it to cameras that I own and have owned and remember how they were when I had owned them.

1) AF - need more testing. I had couple of incidents when I had to press the shutter button twice to acquire focus. And yes, my Olympus OM-D is faster in AF. But overall, the best experience with AF for compact cameras with small sensor, other than Panasonic LX series.

2) Battery life. I bought two extra batteries by Wasabi Power in advance of my X20. I always buy Wasabi Power batteries for all my cameras, since I've never had any problems with these. In this case, my fully charged Wasabi Power battery was gone completely after 120 shots + initial setup. I now charged the OEM Fuji battery and placed it in my camera and will see if I see dramatic improvements, since the first battery life was abysmal. Now I used display for composing and focusing most of my photos.

3) Size: it is definitely smaller and lighter than my Olympus OM-D:

The Malaysia which sold me the camera did provide a US-working plug in a package:

However, I just took a plug out of my Nikon D7000 and plugged it into the Fuji charger and it fits like a charm:

I also bought the EF-20 flash that can be bounced off the ceiling in anticipation of X20. This is how X20 looks with the flash on top of it:

As far as Picture Quality I am still trying to figure it out. I took some pictures that came out great and others that came out not that great, and I am trying to figure out how to properly shoot this camera for best results. The detail in shadows is remarkable though just shooting with general settings outside, the detail just comes out that I don't even remember seing there. As far as low light, I am not sure about Auto WB accuracy in either RAW or JPEG so far. It seems inaccurate under incandescent light and so much that I might have to resort to shooting RAW just to be able to set a somewhat proper WB in pp.

Phase continuous AF seems to be working good, it is the best compact I've ever tried to do that, although I have not tried yet objects that ran toward me (like dogs etc)....

macro/supermacro seems ok I guess

Overall, in the couple hours I've been able to play with it, X20 has not disappoint me in any major way. To be continued in the next couple days after I get more chances to play with X20.

Congrats Absolutic ! I hope you'll find some time to shoot and post some more images. BTW, everytime I see an OM-D sitting next to a X10/20 I'm amazed how small the OM-D is. It's still somewhere on my list.

Cheers, Ken

Getting this flash might be a very smart move!

I'd be interested in knowing more about how the camera works with this flash, if you'll have the time. How fast the charging, how accurate the exposure etc.

I'm very interested in how you rate the image quality, color accuracy and AWB of the X20 against your LX-camera(s). As a Panasonic LX3 owner I'm considering upgrading to the X20.

Thanks and enjoy your new camera!

Glad you are pleased with the X20. Mine still in the pre-order queue at Amazon.com.

Have to say the side by side shot with the OM-D EM-5 (having owned both an EM-5 and an RX100) is illuminating - gives one pause when considering the term 'compact' for the x20.

Looking forward to vicariously enjoying your new camera!

Happy Shooting!

The flash only costs $99 and rotates up to 90 degrees up, sort of like Nikon's SB-400. The shots of my 9-month-old son eating above, I used that flash bounced off the kitchen ceiling in every shot. I will check it more as time goes by.
