LX7 Firmware Update

Whar vertical stripes?

I've never seen them on my LX7....

Even for horizontal panoramas I use up-down option - better resolution.

Red eye is normal when you use camera build in flash it only depends from situation.

I also not have problem with the buffer - it is not important because I can change parameters and prepare to next scene the only thing is blanking red icon on screen for information so who cares?.

I use SanDisk 16GB class 10 SD card.

I wish picture simulation i P mode option. It works in S mode but in P only histogram is an indicator.

And zooming action is optimal IMO.

I hate fast zooming because it is not precise and not useful during movies making.

To speed up action for stills it is possible to use zoom step option in menu.

Then user has 6 ranges typical focal lenghts 24, 28,35,50, 70 and 90 mm - It is wonderfull!

The next possibility is to remember focal lenght last used so after turning on the camera is set ie to 90 mm.

Also further zooming IZoom gives eqvs to 180 mm with decent quality.

Great.

I hope all the cameras on the market did not have the vertical strips problems

Red eye maybe need to be reduced and also zoom can be improved

Thanks for the opinion

I wish Panasonic release the firmware upgrade which solve the LX 7 problems

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx7/14

especially
  • Redeye a problem
  • Takes a long time (30+ seconds) for camera to flush the buffer after a burst containing RAW images is taken
  • Vertical stripes in panoramic images
  • Very slow lens zooming action
What kind of SDHC card are you using? The class rating is important but just as important is the read/write speeds. Get a class 10 SDHC or UHS-1 with read/write speeds of at least 30 mbps, if 45 mbps or more is too expensive.

Hoodman seems to have good ones.

Sounds a little like the DP Review list of beefs. In practice, this camera is a whole lot of fun to use and takes photos that rival my DSLR, especially the macros. While it may take a while to clear the buffer it takes the shots lightning quick. I'll wait till the LX9 is rumored, and then start getting ansy.

The buffer is most definitely a problem, sure I can change parameters, but I can't take another picture until it's clear (or at least mostly clear) And forget it if I want to review a picture... once you hit the button you have to wait until the buffer is completely clear and you can't cancel. And why can't Panasonic let the lens retract before the buffer clears when shutting off the camera? Many times I would like to just shut the camera down and put it in my pocket, but it forces you to wait until the entire buffer is clear before it shuts down and the lens retracts.

How many Raw or jpg in a burst takes to fill the buffer?

Panasonic won't release firmware updates for the LX7,as there is no buisness sence in giving free updates to correct issues, which they can do in the next model presumebly the LX9,which we all will rush out and buy and give them the profit to go on to the next model.

The glowing issues to me with the LX7,are the fact that you cannot set the timer and bracket to work at the same time ,which almost kills the usability as a HDR camera,as the built in HDR setting is rubbish, also the lines in every panorama using the built in panarama mode, makes me just delete them and anyone who thinks they don't exist look closer at your panos from the LX7.

Its a shame as its a gret macro/landscape camera ,with the issues mentioned the Bracketing /Timer issue is the one I would love them to fix as this must have been an error as it cripples the camera for real HDR photographers.

You are wrong to be so cynical.

Panasonic is at least as good as the other manufacturers in that they are very keen to update, improve and correct the performance of cameras already sold. This is keeping faith with the customers and is a means to generate loyalty. THAT's how you get them to buy the latest models as they appear.

If the performance of the LX7 has not been improved in particular areas, despite the requests, you can assume that it's technically not possible, and that improved performance will require new hardware...

... so then you buy the new camera when it appears.

(Panasonic LX line has been on 24-month replacement cycle.)

I am Cynical about firmware updates as I have had every FZ camera, from the great Fz50 to the Fz150,and LX5/LX7 Which I still use, but I can't remember the last time Panasonic cured any issues with a firmware and I was answering the question on whether there would be a firmware, and sure as I can be after 12 months they are not going to issue a firmware for the LX7.In the same time period I have had 3 firmware updates for one of my Nikon DSLR'S

Cheers John
