Free Riders in Challenge Voting: My Top Ten!

Dear RuthC,

OKAY, I'm serious now. What made me jump and respond as I did was the fact that the list of the "Top 10 Free Riders" (as you called them) was announced in the forum as a public accusation, as if a crime has been committed, hinting that these top ten (and possibly many others) should somehow be sanctioned.

I think there are many other ways of raising Your valid point about the Obligation or the Right to vote or not to vote. Don't You think so?

Best Regards, Moshe Ravid.

Hi RuthC, Hi barb_s, Hi Everybody,

I'm glad to let you all know that since yesterday I have cast 507 votes!

... and surprisingly I really liked it!

And now I kindly request we all cooperate, close this thread and instead put our efforts and focus on improving and doing good and creative photographic work!

Best Regards, Molarjung.

But, not all is lost, I am sure someone out there, at this very moment, is creating another list of members. Members like me, who are participating less and less in the challenges but find a lot of enjoyment and learning in voting. I hope this will cheer you up a bit.
Than I'd be in that list as, in more than four years, I only entered 54 times and placed 14649 votes :-)

I'm, like you, less and less partecipating/entering, but I'm still enjoying voting.

It's another way to "compete", I guess, and I like when my vote helps a good pic placing well.

Waiting for the too long awaited changes promised by DPR's staff, I'll go on this way: entering a pic every once in a while and placing votes in the challenges I like.

Btw, I'm still working on my first winning entry :-) (and, with it, the honour to enter and vote in ConanFuji's challenges :-) :-) )

Cheers

Vitto

Thanks for you suggestions but, as I follow the rules, I prefer neither enter nor vote in his Challenges :-)

Ciao WildBegonia,

Ci sentiamo

Vitto

OK Ruth, you've just convinced me to do more!

My next scheduled challenge now has this rule. It was just added specifically because you opened this thread pointing out some regulars that should find the time to vote too. Thanks. We'll see how many I end up DQ'ing.

"RULE 2: No entry allowed unless your profile shows that you have at least 500 votes cast. So, if you want to enter this challenge, check your stats, and do a little voting first. It won't be too hard to get to 500 if you vote on a few open challenges right now."

I agree it is time to close that thread and eventualy start another with a neutral base.

As a non voter i may give an advice, after all it is all about us.

I may have voted someday, when ready to do it, just this time seems to be delayed a lot cause i feel forced to do it.

There is something i know i cant do it is to vote when i have a picture in a challenge, to be both judge and jury isnt possible at least for me, for other challenges i was starting to think about when reading people encouraging it.

Now i am sad i cant enter some challenges, it makes an entry less and dont add any vote.

Best kills better :)

Some people will do what it takes to achieve their goal.
The end justifies the means.

Some change EXIF data and some try to force you to vote, if you enter challenges. (And some feel non-entrants are not really qualified to vote) Both are reprehensible in my opinion.

Ruth, you might consider adding me to that list. Although I have voted many times in the past, I recently stopped voting. I have found that the way the voting is now done requires too much time if you try to be fair and impartial, and evaluate each and every entry. The number of challenges and the number of entrants requires at least a minute or two or even more in most cases to make fair comparisons, each entry against every other.

It's not so time consuming if you would open up the challenge using the slideshow so you can see the entries clearly and click on the appropriate star, before clicking the "next" button to view more entries.

You can vote on as many as you would like in one sitting, spending as much time as you see fit.

Then come back at some other time and arrow on the grey box in the upper left corner of that challenge and click on the dropdown box that says "unvoted ". The ones you haven't voted on will appear and you can continue on voting at your leisure. Sometimes it takes me 3 or more times to finish voting on a challenge. After all, you have 7 days to complete voting. I hope this is helpful.
