Hey guys,

I already own the older tamron 70-200 model without vc. I have been eyeing the newer model as I find the focus speed slow while shooting moving subjects as is therefore not suitable for certain types of photography. Have any of you purchased the lens? Would love to hear some of your reviews and comparisons with the older lens. If any of you guys can point me to some good reviews published online, that would help as well.

ThatNikonGuy really likes it and has online videos with it. I am on my phone and don't have the link so Google him. I don't think it is out with the Nikon mount yet. Gaining excellent usd (which you need) and vc, it also loses the close focusing with nice magnification which you have now. It is also reviewed in Advanced Photographer. Sounds very close to the big boys at a nicer price.

I just bought the Tamron 70-200 VC. While I haven't yet had the chance to fully test it out, I am very impressed so far- including with the speed of the AF. Much faster than the prior version. The thing is also built like a tank.

I was ready to purchase the VC (when it became available) until the VRII went on sale which I purchased yesterday but is on back order. So are you in the US? I kinda liked the idea that the VRII is on backorder so it buys me time to change my mind and go with the VC instead.

Please let us know what you think of it as you play with it.

I heard from a rep this week - they still don't have a date yet.

I just enquired at my local dealer here in India.. He told me that if i pre-order the lens he can deliver it to me in a week..!! Now time to sell my old Tammy and get my funds ready!!

I saw somewhere (can't find the link now) that it'll be available in Japan on March 28 and elsewhere soon after.

I was in Calumet Photo in Chicago Wednesday checking out the VR2 and I asked about the new Tammy in Nikon mount. They said they received an e-mail stating it would be out at the end of the month. He also said he had been using the canon version and that the auto focus was very fast.

I'm thinking the canon version AF system is the same as the nikon so I don't think the AF of the new Tammy is the reason to get this lens, its the VC. Apparently is better than the VRII but I'm not sure how it compares to the VRIII on the f4. One of the best reviews of the 2.8s is by thatnikonguy and as far as I remember the VRII was still faster focusing. So did you get the VRII or are you going to wait for the VC? I was just waiting for the VC to come out but the VRII went on sale + some free stuff so I went for it. I went for IQ rather than better OS. Hope I made the right choice!

I decided to hold off and see how the tamron compares when its available. I'm also considering the the vr3 f/4 from Nikon. I'm currently using a Nikon 80 200 2.8 so I'm wondering if going to an f/4 would be a step backwards . I think you made an excellent choice. The vr2 is still king in this FL and probably will be for years to come. I still may pull that trigger before the end if the month.

Being released this week according to Nikon Rumors.

I'd like to see some comparisons too. I borrowed the VR II 2.8 and was blown away by it. But it's also very expensive. I also borrowed the f4 lens last weekend and found it to be almost as fast as the VR II 2.8.

I have a feeling Nikon knew that the VC was going to be released around this time that's why they extended the sale on the VRII :-) or that was the reason for the sale and they missed the release date so they had to extend it. LOL!

Yeah I remember your post wether the f4 was a compromise and like I said in my post on that thread I ended up with the VRII since it went on sale. Its definitely an awesome lens but I just can't take the fact that a $2k lens has a lot of dust in the lens and that I had to clean the front and rear elements right out of the box.

When he said "out" does that mean Calumet is receiving it or is that the date it's available for sale to customers? Sometimes retailers receive an item and have to sit on it for "x" number of days, weeks, or even months. Obviously, the more important date to us is the date it is for sale to folks like you and me. Also, since the end of the month is on Sunday and shippers don't usually process items that day, is it fair to say it will be available on Saturday? I ask because I'd really like it by noon on Saturday for event with my kids. I'm sure he didn't get to granular with the email he received, but did he share any additional information with you?

Good point. We'll see if the VC is actually offered for sale this week or just leaving the warehouses. Those release dates can be kind of funny.
