Perfect for the FF Nex indeed.

Can't find any ordering information on the MXcamera website though, nor is pricing information available for DEO TECHART contax adapter.

all the sudden, Nex has 6 more AF lenses!Good news

(they claim G 21 and 35-70 both work with the adapter as well!)

Not sure how many G lenses are out there, I bet their prices will go up a bit...

That'll depend on how well it works I think. If it turns out to be a winner I'm going out and finding at least the 35 and 45 before the prices go up :D

I don't have the 35 but it is supposed to be the least sharp of the Contax/Zeiss G lenses and there are plenty of other good alternatives in that range (including the latest Sony 35/1.8) so I personally wouldn't rush to buy it at current prices

I like the 45/2 and 90/2.8 better myself: 45 has great colours and sharpness and being slightly less 'tight' than a 50mm I find the focal length very much to my satifaction for a lot of situations, and the 90 covers the telephoto side of things nicely in a compact package which is about the same size as the 18-55 kit lens (convenient for fitting in a camera bag!)

Thanks for the links...

If the production version is like the prototype shown on those pages then it looks like it might be FF compatible!

They say on the sony rumours site that the price will be less than $300. I'd like one, but money's a bit tight these days so I'll probably continue to twist my own focus ring for that amount :-(

some photos from a Chinese beta user.

Looks like it has a manual focus wheel too! Some people on SAR were wondering. I want one.
The wheel is knurled but I'm not sure this has MF.

I'd buy it in an instant if it does.

Thanks for that, John! I'm definitely seeing the characteristic Zeiss microcontrast in many of the samples. If the AF speed is relatively good and the price non-extortionate, I'm in!

I read in one of the youtube video comments the makers said there would be a manual focus override.

Thoughts,

your link (reproduced at bottom with google translation) shows marks from the plastic lens guards of a Contax G 28mm on the inside of a Nex, hmmm. Has anyone seen this when using another Contax G to Nex adapter?

I have the 28mm Contax G and there are no marks on my NEX-5n.

I have the fotodiox adapter. It does stick out a tiny bit past the adapter though.

I've used the Contax G 28mm on NEX 3, 5n, and 7 with no problems at all - using both the fotodiax and the metabones adapters. Looking forward to picking up this new adapter for my 28, 45 and 90mm lenses. Might even have to try and find a 35mm before the prices skyrocket.

Interesting that the photos in these links do not show the MF over-ride shown in the original link. Don't know that this will make much difference to me unless the AF is really slow in non-ideal lighting situations - but have good MF adapters that do work in these situations.

John,

Regarding your question, there will be some light scratches left with G lenses if you mount the adapter and lens together. Someone suggested sometimes ago that if you mount the adapter first then the lens, you may find it fine. In any case, these light marks are harmless to the camera as far as I am concerned as I also have a G28 and also left two marks on the camera.

So far, the feedback on day one is as follows:

1 G21 is tight with this adapter. One tester complained that it was difficult to mount it. Some of them also found some camera errors when G21 is used. They suggested to cut the fins a little bit.

2. G28, 35, 45, 90 performed relatively well. These beta users all seemed to receive the adapter towards the late afternoon. The camera hunted a bit indoor. They tried to count the amount of the time needed to focus in good light. One said 3 seconds, one believed it was a little longer than 1 second, which all seemed a bit subjective.

3. This beta version has no MF switch. The final production version will have a MF override button for sure. Now they are only testing the AF performance.

4. There are few camera errors reported. Camera froze and had to be switched back on.

5. No one has tried Vario 35-70.

6. There is no mention of other colors of the adapter, such as champagne gold or black.
