I have an issue that my canon S100 won't shoot past 4gb, it has a video timeout that averages in at 16:39 16:49 min. Is there a way to extend this? I was shooting a few cut scenes and the camera just stopped. I read that it has to do with a European law that it wont shoot past 30 min and CAnon on their fat 32 File system just stops it automatically at 4GB.

Another response I received was that Canon did this so that they would not compete with the Video Cameras. All in all it sounds like a bad response.

Any help?

You cannot create a file larger than (2^32)-1 bytes (this is one byte less than 4 GB) on a FAT32 partition.

There are restrictions in Europe that limit the recording time for still cameras. Additionally, there are genuine concerns in regards to the heat produced by longer recordings in such a small device. There is no way to extend it.

The heating effect may not be large enough to damage the sensor but as the sensor heats up image noise will increase.

The s100 supports SDXC cards which use exFAT system this allows file sizes greater than 4GB.

I assume that you might be able to record a video file for 29m 59s but beyond the 4GB fat file system limit. If this is not the case then there is no way of recording HD video for 29m 59s ?

Seems a waste to have just purchased the Sandiskj 95mb/s extreme pro 32gb memory card now
