Anyone blown up any 10D images to 20x24 or beyond? If so, what did you print them on, how did you blow them up in photoshop, what resolution did you print them at, and what you find in terms of quality/degradation?

I took a beautiful picture of the Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh last month and had it enlarged to a 20X30 by ezprints.com. I used 300dpi and I was pretty impressed. Of course its not razor sharp like what youd see from a 4X5 negative at that size but was very very good...only looks soft when you look at it up real close. Also there is still no visible noise at all at that size, none, I shot at ISO 100.

I have to get some kind of website so I can post samples. I did a series at a fair about 2 weeks ago shooting first day 10D with 28-135 IS and second day an (older) 75-300 IS.

The series was made as a learning experience with the 10D, especially the problem of camera motion where a tripod could not be used. The first day I used a monopod to ground (still a lot of traffic problems) - the second day a shorter monopod braced to a holster on my belt, with a Slik Minipro tripod from the monopod to my chest.

One of the shots is a pretty blonde using a cell phone. Exif gives 1/500 f6.7, at 300mm, RAW. (300 mm is the 35mm equivalent of 480 mm).

I used Genuine Fractals and printed this on an Epson 2200, almost no cropping. She is slightly larger than life-size. Her eyelashes are sharp and clear and you can see the ridges on her teeth. The sewing on her leather jacket and her hair is sharp and clear. No noticeable noise at ISO 800. I wish I had a site - I could not show her face since I have no release, but her jacket, hands and hair make clear what is possible.

I should note I am a very experienced pusher of megapixel limits - I can get a SHARP wall usable 13 x 17 out of my Canon Pro90 IS about 50% of the time; again using Genuine Fractals. Altho Neatimage is used with the 2.6 mpx.

NOTE TOO that for this kind of work camera motion is your major enemy DESPITE IS.

Looking at your pic, I see quite a bit of noise. Hope this is jpg limits and not from the print. I am a little skeptical though becuase of your ISO 800.

If ISO 800 is this good [because I truely believe this is good] then ISO 100 must be awesome!

Keeg - see earlier post for details; I got in a pbase so I could
post this 5x8 section of a 24x36:

i keep forgetting what you asked - 1/500 f6.7 RAW in shade on a bright sunny day. The image on pbase is a 5x8 section of this 24x36 inch print. It was enlarged by Genuine Fractals, printed at 180 dpi. (For really good results use Qimage - I did not want to take the time here for the slight possible improvement). It was sharpened a bit using Nik Pro and levels were set to white and black (there were elements of both white and black in the whole image). If the detail were the desired image I would have brightened it, but her face is quite adequate and there were some limitations in that she is holding a shiny silver cell phone which I wanted to print as well as her facial tones being the absolute desiderata... Very little cropping was done - maybe 1 inch on left side.

and thats only because I did not have a larger printer, used an epson 9600 used my interpolation action went to 40x60inches at 300dpi, looked as impressive as 6.45 film at least, but then this is somewhat dependant on the content, if it was a landscape with lots of leaves and blades of grass it would not hold up as well up close, you can check this thread for the interpolation action
