Wow...this is why I am having such a hard time staying with Nikon over Canon

And Nikon is just learning.

Canon did not look good the way they handled the 1D MkIII story.

So they've learned how to deal with problems.

This being said the reported seems quite minor. I wonder if Canon would be as ingenuous for a more serious issue.

These are small potato issues, the big issues, as we already know from Canon and Nikon, get covered up.

Well at least Canon sent something out. Nikon??? All I hear is crickets... and impact damage notices ruffling in the wind.

Having worked a bit on customer support, its amazing how sending people a heads up, as opposed to stonewalling them, works. Duh :)

I've been happily shooting my D800 since June of last year (one of the first batches) and haven't bothered to check the forums since. Just logged in to check out the D7100 (tipped off by Adorama, I used to be up to date on the rumors but with the D800 I haven't cared).

Are people still having AF issues, or have we moved onto griping about something else?

Nikon does nothing from a CRM perspective to keep me with Nikon. Zip. Even Ford does a better job. In fact, my dentist does a better job.

Nikon sends out fixes to small issues too, they are called firmware upgrades.

As a dual-brand shooter, who pays attention to both manufacturers, it does seem to me that Canon is much more open and forthcoming than Nikon, at least at the present time. Indeed, the 1D Mark III troubles may have taught Canon a valuable lesson.

My personal disappointment with Nikon is the ergonomics of the newer, post-D300/D700 DSLRs, compared to 5D/1D/7D Canons, except at the very top tier, where the D4 is a quite good fit in my hands, rivaling if not beating the 1D X. If/When I finally buy a top-tier pro DSLR, I could go with either brand.
