How long would you think it should take Nikon to repair a B1 focus problem under warranty?

Just curious to know how long I'll have to wait to get my camera back? I'd also like to know what the results have been after some recent services for similar problems (aside from the recent complaints where they said the camera was dropped); were most of you happy with their fix?

I know some folks early on were not so happy but I'm hoping Nikon got it together and has it down now.

Although it has nothing at all to do with our original question, I thought you might find this amusing. I entered the word "service" in the search box for NikonUSA and this was the result returned :)

No results were found for: service
The product you have searched for is not available or does not exist

Sounds about right.

One day long ago, a sorcerer and a warrior did battle, as such things were commonplace in that age. Sometimes the sorcerer won, and the sum value of human abilities was improved some trifling amount. Sometimes the warrior won, and again the human race improved by some insignificant amount, for a sorcerer who can't defeat one miserable warrior is a poor sorcerer indeed.

My D800 says B1. I sent it in the first week of January. I still haven't received it back.
Ouch. I suspect that Nikon had to send new equipment and training to all the service centers around the world. If so, I wonder when Melville got theirs?

If 20-30% of all the D800/E had this problem, there must be a large number of cameras that need to be fixed at Melville and Los Angeles.

I have this vision of a room that is filled to the ceiling with boxes of D800. In the corner a guy is hunched over a complex machine, callibrating AF one camera at a time...

took 'em about 2.5 weeks to fix my D800 with a B1 focus problem. of course i didn't like being without, but i had my D700 to tide me over... so it wasn't bad at all, especially when nikon's website said my camera still hadn't shipped, and i came into the office and found it in my chair, shipped 2nd day air.

i'm just a guy with a camera, absolutely no reason to be given any special treatment, and yet i can't relate to any of the horror stories that are constantly kicked around on this forum.

Hugo, I'm assuming you were pleased with the repair and the camera's performance afterwards? How long along did you have yours fixed and was it sent to Melville?

My D800E was just returned today from Melville. They checked it in on 02/07 and assigned a B1 repair level. Total time was two weeks. It is a very early model serial #3004xx with a rather severe far left focus problem; it back focused about 12 inches. They also replaced the battery compartment cover because it had fallen off twice for no apparent reason. I've only done a quick test but it appears to be much better. Tomorrow during daylight I will check it out closer.

OK, so I'm now listed as "in shop", so it seems to be moving along nicely. It's tough being without my D800.
