when do you expect the next HX300V will be released? What specs, or do you expect an FZ200 comparable camera, or even a second model like Panasonic?

Not likely there'll be another model in this series. I think it's come to the end of its run. There will be a new kind of lower-cost, interchangeable lens camera. I am predicting that it will have three lens options. One for 24-100mm, another for 28-300mm and one for 30-600mm. The sensor will be a 2/3-inch size-type MOS, with 12 Megapixels. The 28-300mm lens will come furnished and the other two as optional accessories. They won't fit any other type or brand of camera, giving some proprietary advantage to the manufacturer. The 30-600mm lens will be larger and heavier than those on current superzoom models and cost about half the price of the basic camera. It will take a telextender and a 1.5X wide-angle lens, new ones of which will be made. It will be very successful and drive all the other manufacturers to follow the lead and make their own versions. Corporate espionage being what it is, they will probably already be working on them. Be prepared to pay about $1,300. for it, with all four extra lenses included in a kit. The basic camera with the 28-300mm lens will be $600. The lenses will be mid-priced, but very high quality and this will be the key to the success of this new concept. If you want it to be a small, large-pocket camera, use only the 24-100mm lens, but then throw on the largest lens combination, when that's needed. The popularity of larger sensors in several small, fixed-lens cameras this year, has paved the way for this Multizoom type to emerge. It will combine the best aspects of the superzoom, with those of the small, larger-sensored, fixed-lens cameras and some features of the D-SLR thrown in. They won't miss the boat this time and will include mike and headphone jacks, a multi-function hotshoe and full video controls. There will be RAW and a furnished program for it that really works. There will be Fine and Superfine J-PEG encoding options and selectable higher HD video bit-rates. The newest high-performance sensor-shifting image-stabilization system will be integrated with the two longer lenses, which will have elements that move in synch with the sensor. There will be a built-in calibration system, to keep them adjusted to each other. They say that a Chimpanzee could shoot steady video with the one new camcorder that has this system. So most of the contributors here could probably get good results.p12 wrote:

wait, some have said the HX100 had better overal image quality, if there will be a successor will imo greatly depend on how well the HX200 has sold.p12 wrote:
HX100V and HX200V has been announced around this month, hope so, there will be a successor and no new generation, as Steve predicted ;-). The HX200V now is relative cheap, so the question is, upgrade from my HX100V, or wait for a successor. I predict, Sony haven't heard their customers and pushes the small sensor to 20Mpx and even more noisereduction and lesser details and dynamic range. Hope so, there will be much more options in the menu. So, should I wait, or upgrade?
if i look at the posters names that got the RX100 i dont see many names that i've seen over the almost 7 years i'm in this forum, its a whole new group of people.Joe M. wrote:
Cant really go by the posting because as soon as the RX100 was released everything on here was about the RX100. Most people that have a 200V probably purchased a RX100 or just decided not to post and not everyone that purchased a camera posts on DPreview. So it is kinda hard to say.
Thanks

I predict that you'll regret it. Canon quit putting full quality into their superzoom models 5 years ago. The controls are unresponsive and unpredictable. They seem unable or unwilling to change this. I have a Canon camcorder that was made 21 years ago, with the same dodgy control wheel. The fact that they have only 720p video with a full frame-rate, is an indication that they are cutting corners. I don't know how anyone would expect a cheap, 50X zoom lens to produce good quality. At least they offer the option of a higher level of J-PEG encoding. I had to learn my lesson about this type of Canon camera the hard way, but fortunately was able to return it.wb2trf wrote:
I've had a lot of fun with the HX-100, but the new Canon has a few things I want. I think it has better IQ at the long end of the zoom. This is a big deal to me. It is much faster shot to shot for single shots with deselectable review. Also a big deal for me. It is 1200mm rather than 810, and I can always use more. The framing zoom-jump is great for picking out long distance moving subjects. The IS seems at least comparable, which is hard to do. I tried it in a store and the autozoom control seems sensitive enough that I can live without the ring, which I thought would be hard to do. I think that's enough.
I was able to test this fairly well in the store and I would say the opposite. Shot to shot is faster than the 100V and seemed very consistent.Stephen McDonald wrote:

The end of Feb, if it´s 12 months between the releases.p12 wrote:

The surprise for some, may be that they'll have no new camera of this type for 2013. Even though i like the HX200V a lot, many others haven't been able to get it to work well for them and I think it's sales are low. The throwaway H200 model may be it for this year. Wouldn't it be hilarious, if this cheapo camera turned out to be better than the more expensive ones? Occasionally, throughout their history, the Sony designers have been able to sneak an inexpensive camera or camcorder past the marketing people, that works very well. But they quickly get smart and discontinue it.Elaka Farmor wrote:

I hope Sony comes with a surprise here.
The sonyalpharumors said today the HX300v will be 20MP with a 50x zoom, price $500. But did not give a date for announcement or release. Or any more details. Probably not far off.p12 wrote:

You could wait I purchased the HX100V for $400 then around 6months later the 200 came out and I picked that up for around $429 onsale at Sams Club now they have it for I think $409. So yeah you could pick it up or wait, I think Sony will bring out a RX series SuperZoom Camera with either the same 1inch sensor that is in the RX100 or come out with a new sensor.
I will be picking up the HX300 or replacement if it really is a game changer or a serious upgrade. The only reason I purchased the HX200V was possibly better color reproduction which is up to the person and clear image zoom which I like having that the 100 didn't have.
So you have to decide whether you really really really need the 200 now for $400 or put that towards the new camera when they release it in a few months, which I hope they announce it soon.
Hey if you can pick one up like real cheap at a bargain price you can always buy it and get the replacement later when they announce and either sell the HX200V or use as a back up or carry camera.
IMHO
Thanks
