Just went to a photoshop to take a look at the EOS 60d. I was advised by the shopkeeper to wait a little while as he had read this morning that the EOS 70d will be launched within 45-60 days. According to him when it is stated like that there is a high chance that a new product will come soon.

(onfurtunately forgot to ask his source :-|

Anyone knows more?

Nothing but rumors. And until there is an official announcement from Canon, it will remain nothing but rumors.

Rumor 1: 70D to be a lateral update to 60D, featuring DIGIC 5, on-sensor phase detect for in-video AF, dedicated video switch as on 650D (t4i) High-end APS-C to be represented by (also coming) 7D Mk2. While T4i has closed the gap somewhat, there is still plenty to differentiate 60D from the 'Rebel': more extensive controls, shoulder LCD, prism VF, deeper buffer, more extensive RAW options, etc. Price levels for 700D, 70D, 7D2 to remain roughly similar to 650D, 60D, 7D.

Rumor 2: 700D (t5i) to borrow even more from X0D line, but bumping 70D to absorb 7D and become more of a successor to 50D: magnesium body, advanced AF, high speed, dual processor. Priced closer to current 7D.

I am more inclined to believe Rumor 1.

As to your concern: look at the camera as it is today. Look at your needs. Look at competing models. Remind yourself that 60D body can be had today for $700, its successor is likely to be in $1k range. If 60D meets your needs, get it.

The shopkeeper must be doing really well to put off a potential sale.

Only Canon knows when it will be releasing a 70D, which it probably but will, but who but them really knows.

Four years ago I was advised that a mark II version of the venerable (released in 1998) Canon 100-400mm lens was imminent. I needed the lens then, so I went ahead and bought it anyway, which was a good thing because a 100-400mm Mk II still hasn't been released, so I take rumors with a large grain of salt.

Personally, I'm sure we'll see a 70D, and sooner rather than later, but one thing I've noticed about buying digital cameras is that as soon as you buy one, within a month or two you'll see one you wish you'd waited for.

I doubt the shopkeeper knows more than anyone here. Even if someone here knew something concrete, they would be bound by nondisclosure agreements. You'll only know for sure when Canon makes an official announcement. Until then, take all rumors with a grain of salt.

...is my guess. Sheesh, they've put out nothing new for so long, it's time. I hope it's the 7D af system, and a similarly good new sensor like the G1X has.. that would rock !!

A Shopkeeper told you that new 70D is Coming?

If I am a shopkeeper +

Rumor website reader and one more condition ....

If I know the 70d will be launched within 45-60 days...

THEN I WILL DIE TO SELL MY 60D... I WILL ADD DISCOUNT... GIVE OFFERS TO CLEAR THE IN STOCK UNITS...

However, there are some good websites for correct rumor information...

That's kinda funny - "correct" rumors. There's no such thing - they're still rumors and therefore unsubstantiated :-)

yeah... that's why I thought it must be somehow serious. Otherwise I don t understand the shopkeepers behaviour (or he is tired of his job, does not like my face or whatever :-))

I know they are mythical at the moment...but do you expect the IQ to be more or less the same...and mostly other cam aspects to be the difference ? ....I think... I expect that to be so.

The T2i, 60, and 7D all have pretty much the same sensor, same IQ. Right ? ...so why wouldn't that happen again.

Point-- those of us who don't need the fps or other goodies...may want to get the cheaper sooner released 70 vs the 7DII....

thx for your educated opinion.

With the D7100 release imminent, things should get interesting comparing the two shortly.

Compare what?? A camera that hasn't been announced to two other cameras that don't even have a reliable rumor attached to them?

It's one thing if you have one existing camera, and speculate what its successor will improve upon, but how do you compare two nonexistent cameras?!?

Great, now throw in the 3rd nonexistent camera, I guess that's what rumors forum is for ;)

apparently some ppl have a lack of history applied forward with imagination.

unicorn or pegasus?

Ok, so imagine whatever specs you think the cameras will have and go ahead and compare them. In the real world, the rest of us will wait for the real thing.

I'm glad my imagination isn't dead. Nor lessons from history.

It serves no purpose to guess the specs on a camera that doesn't yet exist, so it has nothing to do with imagination. I'll use my imagination when creating images with the real camera I use today.
