To buy or not to buy 1DX from UK?

The best offer in the UK market for the 1Dx body is 4850 pounds (~ 5650 euro) http://www.camerapricebuster.com/Canon_EOS_1DX_Body_pc.html . In the rest of the EU prices, at least if you choose to buy from a reliable store, are higher. If you take a look at the stores from the camerapricebuster.com list, are any reasons why you should not buy from any of them? Any unpleasant shopping experiences in the past?

Can you recommend other online shop with good prices that accepts orders/deliver from/to outside UK (inside European Union).

Regards

I have been monitoring these guys for over a year now and must say, they seem to be excellent on-line sellers (user reviews say so). The "no-hassle, customs cost included" policy is just great.

Because of this thread, I found they now also ship to Portugal, something that was not previously available. It is great news that I now can count on them as possible sources for my future purchases. :-)

...a word of advice though: Carefully check their pricing as it seems to be inconsistent across multiple items.

The 70-200 f/2.8L IS II is about 350 EUR cheaper than it is here in Portugal...but a 5DMKIII runs at exactly the same price and the 1DX is actually more expensive, at 6602.50 vs. 6075 over here.

Unfortunately being a pro camera I've not seen any particularly special offers and camerapricebuster listing the cheapest I've seen from the normal dealers. There is always the second hand market. I was lucky enough to pickup a mint 3 month old 1dx, less than 5000 actuations, in box with all the bits and a second original battery for £3800.

I bought 2 5D Mk IIIs from DigitalRev at a substantially lower price than in the UK and 1 of them developed a fault which they sorted out really quickly. Delivery took a few days from Hong Kong. They sell the 1DX for £4239 currently - their price includes postage and custom fees which they sort out. If I was in the market for one I wouldn't hesitate. I've saved loads of money with them and I don't see a down side.

Out of interest, how did they sort out the fault issue?

The purchase must be from within EU. Otherwise I will pay 24% VAT + 10% customs taxes on top of camera price. In Romania you can buy a brand new 1DX with 2 year Canon warranty for 6640 euro. If I buy it from UK for 4849 pounds (~5620 euro) even with shipping costs added it is still a saving of almost 1 grand.

In that case, please consider this Portuguese shop. They sell the 1DX for 6075 EUR (+ shipping).

I know some people there and admire them immensely for setting up a photo mega-store, one that can rival with anything in the world, in spite of our national market being such a relatively feeble one.

They have been on the market for some decades but the mega-store has opened only in 2010.

It is a great one, by any standards, and a true testimony of their love for photography:

They have this online store, which you can use:

I can vouch for the people and the service at the "brick&mortar" mega store. I have never used the online service, so I don't know how smoothly it runs.

However, should you (...or anyone else here...) decide to order from them and run into some hiccup I can offer to try and sort things out by dropping by and talking to "my guys" over there.

(...A strictly "helping hand" offer, mind you. I am in no way, what-so-ever, affiliated with them...)

Purchased a 24mm TS-E F3.5L II from DigitalRev, came within 4 days of ordering, well packaged, very happy, Mark

All that I have read about Digital Rev has been good. The same does not apply though to all Hong Kong traders. I had a very bad experience with Simply Electronics for example. As with any purchase, you need to check these things out with Google before parting with your cash.

I would recommend Fixation in London! Ok it's £4999 in vat but they include delivery and spare battery very quick delivery too

In January they also had Canons 2 year interest free deal

Flash Camera do the 1DX for that price, I purchased my 5D3 from them just after its launch and it was one of those with the light leak. Canon UK repaired it under warranty requiring only a copy of my Flash Camera receipt. So you have no warranty worries. I also got my Canon 500 f4 from Flash Camera as well. So no worries with buying from them. In fact I buy all my Canon kit from them which has enabled me to own the kit of my dreams :)

My only concern with this online shop is what I read on their FAQ page regarding Canon warranty:

"Is there a warranty included with my purchase?

Yes!

Canon products have a 1 year Canon USA warranty valid in all of Europe with UK invoice provided."

From what I know Canon now offers 2 year warranty for pro camera bodies. But there are some details and terms and conditions:

"Canon is reinforcing its commitment to high levels of service with the announcement of an additional one-year warranty for its EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS C100, EOS C300, EOS C300 PL, EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL camera bodies, providing photographers and filmmakers with two years of warranty coverage in total, free of charge.

The offer consists of a one-year extension on top of the one-year Standard European Warranty System (EWS), under identical terms and conditions, for a total warranty period of two years from the date of purchase (a proof of purchase and the one-year Standard European Warranty System will be required).

The two-year warranty is valid on products originally distributed by Canon within the EU countries plus Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. To be able to claim the additional year of warranty you must have purchased the product in one of these countries."

If they sell 1Dx-s distributed by Canon in the US, will the 2 years warranty still be available?

Hi all has anyone used this company to buy cameras or lenses before? From what I found on the net they seem to provide very good service.
