HP 315 and Win XP not compatable

I recently bought our daughter an HP 315 digital. She downloaded photos to Windows XP off the 8 m card that came with the camera, but it wouldn't download off the 128 card I had bought her. HP says they have a compatability problem with XP, and that the max card you can use is a 32. QUESTION: Is the problem in the camsera and thus image on the 128 still compatable with XP (so if she got a card reader she'd be OK), or is the image unusual and a 128 card won't work with XP? She's planning to use the camera at graduation this week, and didn't want to have non-accessable photos (or waste money on a reader if it wouldn't work)

I have MS XP Pro on my computer and have always use an inexpensive card reader to transfer images from the memory card to the computer with no problems. I use 64MB, 128MB, 256MB and 512MB memory cards. I found that it is easier and faster by using a card reader to move the images to the computer. I also use the card reader/writer to move files from the office to the home computer. And I always format the memory cards in the digital camera, always.
