I bought this lens several months ago for some 60 USD in a local store.

Tonight I tried it briefly on NEX 7, while I was making some tests for Metabones Speed Booster in my studio.

As most mirror lenses, it is very light and compact, and seems quite well made. Despite it's FL, it feels on Nex 7 very comfortable, and well balanced. I guess it must be one of the cheapest 500mm f8 mirror lenses, out there, as I have seen some sold for bellow 40 USD. Mine is in FD mount.

I didn't expect it to be the sharpest lens, and it isn't of course, but it's not bad at all in fact. (Unsharpened, resized to 2560 dpi for web).

To be honest, despite my very solid (30kg heavy) tripod and massive geared head, at 750mm, I had a feeling, that even my breathing shakes the rig. So, maybe there is slight motion blur, hard to tell.

Those mirror lenses are certainly the reason, why one would appreciate in body image stabilization.
I couldn't go over 1/200s because of the flash sync speed. But I had tripod.

What surprised me most is very good contrast and great color rendering. I expected washed colors with low contrast.

On top I got donuts.

I kind of like "donut" highlights, maybe because I am a bit bored of "creamy smooth bokeh" :-)

Sometimes, they look quite creative

And with a bit of care when choosing background they could be hardly visible

But you might fall in the situation, where donuts appears where they shouldn't, making nice doll in the foreground a bit... cheap?

All in all, it could be fun to use such a lens from time to time.

Something like Fujian 35 f1.7 on the other side of the focal lengths. Just be careful with the donuts, if your mother in low enters the frame to close.
