I'm having polarised prescription sunglasses made and I intend to buy an EX-1 in the near future. Can anyone comment on how they've found the OLED EVF with these?
Any tips for angles of polarisation if I can choose?

I don't have polarised sunglasses but I remember a post from someone stating that while the EVF of the X-Pro1 turned black he had no such problems with the X-E1's viewfinder. Don't trust my memory too much though.

This should answer your question:

The X-E1 uses an OLED panel which seems to be immune to polarization.

The evf is good at any angle. The rear screen will get very dark when the camera is held vertically. Still can see what's on it, which is better than many, but not immune.

Polarized lens vary and I'd try first or unpack just the body and see how it goes.

I agree 100%

Hi everyone, I'm usually in the NEX forum, and had this issue with NEX 5n, where the screen went BLACK if turned vertically when using PL sunglasses.

However, I just tried the same thing with NEX 6, and it seems the issue is no longer present. The screen gets a wee bit darker but not black, EVF remains unaffected.

I understand N6 & XE1 share the same EVF, not sure about the screen.

Cheers!

I had issues with the EVF "going black" on the OM-D when wearing polarized sunglasses. It's one of the things that led me to sell my OM-D. I can report that the EVF on the XE-1 does NOT suffer from that problem...at least with my sunglasses. The rear display is fine as well.

BTW...I have (stock) polarized Ray Ban sunglasses.

That's going to be the best bet I think.

I've been reasonably lucky so far with LED screens on my Nikons and phones etc.

The only one I have trouble with is the Canon G12 which seems to have orientated the polarisation at either 0deg or 90deg so it turns black in portrait mode.

All other screens have been fine, so fingers crossed.

With Maui Jim sunglasses the OMD EVF was OK in landscape but went completely dark in portrait. Was a PITA and a nice advantage to the OVF in the XP1.

I have polarized Oakleys and the VF turns completely black in LANDSCAPE mode. Portrait mode is sort of usable. Best to take off any glasses/sunglasses before composing.
