The judge did not accept the Nikon's claim. He said that Nikon's patent is easily invented by combining the other inventions, so it is not infringement.

Nikon is going to appeal to a higher court.
 
It is like the end of an era when another Doom Dosage source appears to be drying up. Maybe they will find fire ants in Quality Control next.

Thanks for the update, I wonder how much this patent dispute was affecting new lenses not offering OS...

Or... they could save their money and instead put it into preserving vast areas of rain forest.

Interesting. It would be fun to get a description of Nikon´s patent and the two that it did consist of (according to the judge).

The judge is probably right. Many patents are quite obvious combinations of already existing stuff.

A reason that companies sometimes bring a lawsuit against another company is to show the other company's hand. Lawsuits force both companies to open up information to fight the lawsuit that normally wouldn't be public knowledge. It is possible that Nikon is wanting to know more about the research Sigma is doing in lenses in order aid them as they make future decisions in research and development to compete with Sigma.
