Underwhelmed also. Another slow zoom . Ok if you live in a sunny/bright area of the world.

I'll save my money and go for the primes.
I'm a bit puzzled by the underwhelmitude ( :-) ) being expressed both here (and also on Nikon Rumor comments, but there it is a tradition for everything Nikon 1).

The 18-200DX VR and 28-300FX VR lenses are very popular. The equivalent new 10-100 VR provides a compact alternative to the heavy, fat, expensive (pre super-kit selloff) powerzoom. Obviously not a lens intended for indoor use, but a very handy travel all-in-one.

The 6.7-13 is the long-awaited (at least by me) solution to "leaning-over-building" syndrome for city use, and also has VR.

For primes we have a 10, a fast 18.5 and (hopefully soonish) also a faster 32 (also with nano crystal coat). I would be happy to see even more primes, but don't expect more than a macro - let's remember DX is 13 years old and has only a fisheye, a normal and a couple of macros for primes. I feel that CX is being well provided for by Nikon!

Im definitely not anti-nikon 1 like our friends over at NR. Just wasn't super enthused. The system is coming along though.

Nothing against wide angles. and VR is great (for none moving subjects)

I'd just prefer to be able to use faster shutter speeds and/or lower iso's.

Is the 1 system marketed mostly on speed .

For landscape and static subjects i"ll use my GXR (its good at that)

Every system has an all in one solution; this is N1's. So far there are only the 10 2.8 (not really that fast) and the nice 18.5 1.8. When the 32 1.2 arrives , many here will be happy.

If you are also Nikon DX shooter this should be very familiar territory to you. :-|

How old is the N1 system?

Didn't it take Sony much longer to introduce any additional lenses beyond the introduction models for the NEX ?

Nikon does seem to be supporting the system and providing growth. I have no idea how extensive the lens line will become, I can't see a whole lot more being developed. Most of the targeted P/S users will not purchase an entire lens system.

Also in the pipeline-As per Tom Hogan,
  • Primes: 14mm f/2.8, 18mm f/1.4 (35 and 50 equivalents)
  • Zooms: 9-25mm f/2.8-5, 9-43mm f/2.8-5.6 (24-68mm and 24-120mm equivalents)
  • Macro: 37mm f/2.4, 40mm f/2.8, 60mm f/3.5 (100, 105mm, and 162mm equivalents

Great! Nikon is building up an entire line of CX lenses, keeping most of them small and light weight.

That is the MAIN reason why I buy N1. Way to go, Nikon!
Indeed, indeed ;-)!

Just want to point out, as a parenthetical aside, that I actually wrote, with boring conventionality, that "I feel that CX is being well provided for by Nikon!"

I am well aware of the dangers of truncating a previous post in replying to it - thanks to DPR's marvellous software, you may find yourself stuck in "quote mode" with no way out other than cancelling.

I do still feel that there are merits in resuming the general practice of Replying to the post one is actually responding to, rather than invariably to the last added one, but admit I should hardly pretend to be the member who should be a stickler for such strict forum proprieties. Only a Forum Deity would have the right to insist on such a thing.

These interest me. the 40mm f/2.8 macro especially.

if these lenses do come to pass, I can't imagine why they won't add CLS to the system down the road.

The DX 40mm f2.8 isn't all that much bigger than the 30-110mm given the packaging for the DX mount. In fact, I've thought of getting one for my FT1 but, have enough micro-nikkors right now.

I have toyed with the idea of getting the 40mm as a dedicated macro for my V1 even though I already have a great Cosina 100/3.5 macro (manual focus of course). Have you used the DX 85/3.5 with the V1 and if so can you share any shots?

Here's a few from the summer that I haven't got around to doing much (or any) PP on.

An insect which I think flew off before I could retake the shot stopped down more:

Test shot of a bunch of keys:

Illustration of use as a general tele:

And one for the (half-)"pint and shoot" crowd:

According to this, the 6.7-13mm super-wide zoom lens most definitely will have VR. Excellent news. And a portrait lens fast enough to blur the background will no doubt be welcomed by many as well, though I don't think I will buy it.

Those who bought the camera in the 2-zoom kit and buy the super-wide zoom will have every focal length from 35mm equiv. 18-300 (Okay, 297, close enough!) with almost no overlap.

The 18.5 f/1.8 prime is a great lens, too. It really does allow a decent amount of depth-of-field control in bright light. And indoors I can now take pictures of my infant grandson without using a flash and not worry about blur. For this reason alone, it is currently my favorite lens.
