Silly Question: What do V, J, S mean?

I have my order in for the $399 V1 kit from B&H (V1, 10-30, 30-110). It should actually arrive in a few minutes, and I'm killing time writing this.

As I explain my new purchase to people, I tell them about the V1 and J1 and their differences.

There's only one problem: I find myself constantly confusing V and J. It just doesn't seem like the word "V" means high end and the word "J" mean low. And now we have "S", which has just as little meaning as the V and J!

Am I the only person with this problem, or is it common?

And does anyone have a clue as to why Nikon picked this rather odd naming scheme? I understand "Nikon 1" but I just don't understand the cryptic V, J, etc labels. They seem like the very opposite of what a consumer-friendly naming scheme should be.

Thoughts?

S=simple

J=Just for fun

V=very advanced

...just a guess...
