S45 users,

I would like to know how many pictures does a charge last based on your settings? I am thinking about buying one camera and would like to know what is your mileage if you set it to max resolution and super fine mode. I am trying to determine how many spare batteries I need.

Also, how many years (hopefully) before you replace the rechargeable battery?

Thanks for the information.

I own the s45.... so this is only from my personal experience nothing more.

I have two of the canon batteries for it, but when I am out shooting for the day I rarely need the second battery. When goofing I take this camera and generally shoot 200 or more pics with it in a day, I have only had to change batteries if I did a lot of previewing/reviewing, ie total would be more like 150.... and thats at the highest jpeg setting, although in RAW I have had similar results.

As far as how long they will last... I think it depends on how many times they are charged/used.... but was told an average of 1-2 years.

PS I am very happy with the length of time the battery lasts and how fast they charge.

Hope this helps.

S45 is my first dig cam. In comparision to other dig cam's ive read about it does have a rather short battery life. That said I have yet to use the 2nd "spare" battery that I bought. I can usually get around 120 shots out of it. I agree with previous poster that i was impressed in the time it takes to charge. Manual says 80 minutes or so. Usually its done it an hour or less, at least in my exp. Im sure that will change over time when the battery get more use. So far I really enjoy the cam.

I have not yet taken that many photos that the battery has died on me. How long the battery last depends on how much you use the lcd, flash, zooming in and out. You should get a fair number of pictures from a single charge. I bought a cheap battery off of ebay from eforcetrading for $9us plus shipping.

Not even 150 pictures with flash, and that is using the LCD screen infrequently. It still has enough juice for playback after that, though. I'd stick with the NiMH battery packs (thread by James with C-5050) for any amount of extended shooting.
