I have a D70S. Love it. I 'upgraded' to D5100 and have not been 100% happy with it.

1. battery life is very very short with video.

2. no auto focus motor in the body of the camera, limits my use of my favorite 18 - 200mm lens to manual focus only.

3. only one wheel to control F-stop and Aperture. Can never find that +/- button along with the wheel. Carpel tunnel!!!

So, I'm looking at D7000. BUT, I went to use it in the store and I prefer the viewfinder display in my old D70S The AF-S display stays a little longer, I can force it to only show the center box and then compose. How can I do that on the D7000? So far, I haven't found the setting to overide the 11 or 39 points. I just want one center.

Hard to teach an old dog new tricks? Or, do I need to change my ways?

Any suggestions?

Solution
You can set AF to single point (use the button on the af-mf lever at the base of the lens and main/secondary wheel, I don't quite remember which one), then select the center af-point using the multiselector. After that you can lock the focus point with a small lever on the back of the camera (marked "L").

Hope that helps.

Solution
The D7000 will do all that you desire. Why not download a pdf file of the manual - i'm sure its available from nikon . Alternately look up specific questions on google - you will come accross ken rockwell and similar - also lots of good things on youtube.
