Why's there so many hateful voice about Sony SLT?

Herd mentality, same reason why there's so many hatred for other brands as well. And it might just be my personal impression, but those afflicted by it seldom intersect with competent photographers, thus even less of a reason to mind them.

To me the SLT vs SLR is like Digital TV vs Analogue TV, or CD vs vinyl records, or Internet vs the postman.

The SLT gives so much more info in the viewfinder. Ask your "friends" to stop down to f/16 to check the depth of field, and see whether they see the advantage in the SLT. Similarly, get their SLR to do a manual focus, then show them focus peaking on your SLT. A serious photographer would easily see the major advantages.

To me, the SLT is clearly the way of the future. Most people have an investment in a camera system and can't afford to change, so have to justify sticking to 1940's technology.

I like your acquired sense of humor here in the forum. Send me a link to your website when it is up and running. I'd like to see what other Picts you put up.

I have Sony camera’s because I had Minolta lenses. Recently I bought a beautiful camera book with examples of how pictures were taken. It was all about the picture quality and the cameras were from entry level to professional and among them Sony entry level as well. Cameras are like cars. You pick the model you lik,e but they all take you from A to B. They all have their strengtsh and weaknesses. I have a A35 (SLT) but also an A850. The little A35 takes great pictures and so will your A37. Like with everything SLT has pros and cons and so does one with an optical view finder. Enjoy your camera, expand your knowledge and technique, don’t let others spoil you fun!

When people say "I bought a Nikon." or "I got myself a Canon." We know right away what they are talking about.

When someone says, "I bought a Sony." We won't have a clue and usually would ask "What you bought? A TV? camcorder? or Playstation?" Funny thing is, we probably won't even ask if he/she bought a Sony camera.

The point is, Sony makes many things and made some terrible mistakes in the past. There bound to be a lot of Sony-haters. They dislike Sony because of their own past bad experiences with Sony produts. Most of them probably won't buy a Sony ever, and would extend their bad feelings to any Sony products and sharing their feelings to all people known.

If a Sony-hater happens to be a photographer, ...

Don't worry too much about it. You love your new cam and that's great! I sometimes discuss camera brands with my fellow photo nut friends, and even if most of them are canikon guys, some of them are a little bit more creative in their choices, like Pentax, for instance. I actually had to ask my friend why he chose the Pentax route and he had a couple of good points, great weather sealing and inexpensive lenses for instance. I never criticize anyone for their choice of brand, however, I can question some peoples choice of camera model if it is a bad choice for the intended use.

Showing off what your SLT is capable of is better than talk. Take some great shots and let your friends see for themselves.

I know right?! A37 impressed me with it's ability of view the actual effect I will be getting after I press the shutter..which I don't see in other's entry level DSLR/SLR

Yea, I never criticized their choice cause I believe they have they specific reasons behind but they doesn't seems to think the same and it shocked me because they speak like Sony has stole their money and is bothering their life :s and yea I going to impress them with what I can do with my SLT once it is arrived :)

Today I happily told my friends that I bought Sony A37 with 18-135 lens, and then what I got in response is a "Seriously?dude" followed by some LOL...and they told me to better return it and rather get an entry level canon or Nikon..lol I tried to explain to them that it has a lot functions that most other brand's entry level camera don't have, but they said it's all bullshits and don't worth to give up the quality that other cameras brings. And I was like..Okay...um..well

I have read a lot of reviews about the recent Sony DSLT before purchasing it and I really think it has a lot of awesome features that I want as my upgrade from a canon G11.

Was Sony's camera that bad before so it has such reputation? lol I just don't know why people trying to avoid it so hard
The reason people hate it. Well look at the haters. First most open minded reviewers are mostly positive. Most people who hate Sony are with another brand and won't budge when it comes to another system. Their hate comes from fear that Sony one day is going to eclipse their systems as a better system. So their hate is fueled by insecurities they have with what ever they are shooting. But the bottom line is if Sony consistently makes a better camera then the big gun shooters around the world will start using it. But Sony has a ways to go . They need several models of really good reliable cameras. I think they are close. They are starting to get serious attention, hence the price of the a99. Plus I think it's a good seller. Not as good as the D800 but certainly better than previous Sony full frames. Most people that bought Nikon and Canon are heavily invested in their systems.

But I think new comers or people that sees how good Sony is and can afford to jump to Sony will. Some people only shoot the best, period.

Yea I agree with you. Most amateur photographer I knew hate Sony so so much, and it's rare to see people bringing a Sony camera around in the city. Yet I love Sony for giving me more than I expect for a reasonable price:)

Good point! And I was actually LOLing them secretly because of seeing them trying so hard to pretend they know everything in the world lol and with a coming out with a conclusion that the camera I got is crap:-D

Herd mentality..good term..that's exactly what came to my mine when they started pointing out my "wrong" choice :-D

Sometimes I feel quite annoyed when I heard people judging the new evolution of technology crappy when they have never even tried using it for a while

Thanks!:) They won't success even they tried to because I know what I need and do love to go with the way I like with things I got from my research stage:) I am just surprised how by how my friends react as I thought Sony is having a good reputation with their SLT.

I'm gonna use my first post on this forum to answer your question. First, let me say that I'm a total amateur and have a long way to go in my photography but being a person of many interests, I have seen what you have experienced many times and have some insight on it. by the way, I owned an A230 for a couple of years and recently bought an A65 which I'm still figuring out.

The thing about haters is this: its not that they hate Sony DSLR's or any other brand for that matter, its that they bash other brands to justify their own gear decisions. DSLR's are big investments (for most of us) and since we are not made of money, upgrading usually means that you have to remain brand-loyal to whatever you bought first unless you are ready to make a HUGE investment in changing everything in your bag which you have bought over the years just to upgrade.

This means that some (very childish) people will have a need to reassure themselves by trashing everything that is not "their" brand. This is especially true with many owners of the Big Two, which, by the way make amazing cameras.

SLT is especially controversial because I think (and this is my opinion here, I could be full of crap) it will be a game changer down the line. Anything with less moving parts is better in terms of speed and reliability. iPods and hard drives comes readily to mind. SLT will not make DSLR's obsolete but I think its a definitive look at the future of digital photography.

So brand loyalists need not worry. Their respective companies will eventually feature the technology as well in some form so they won't have to buy our "crappy" Sony cameras. However, I don't think that will stop them from bashing Sony DSLR's. When they do, be proud. LOL
Ah remember Beta and VHS, the better system didnt win but which one are we watching now. neither. Photography is not just tacking photos it is an artistical way of recording memories. As long as you are happy with your choice (you will be) and can enjoy the expierience (sony are user friendly) and enjoy the resuilts(they are good cameras), all that is left is to laugh when you have a better understanding of your sony than they have of their canikon camera.

for the last 30 years, and why should that change.

Never shot Canon, had a Nikon film SLR and bow I am glad with Sony.

They just hate the fact that Sony has better features. I was in the mall this morning while my A77 is hanging on my shoulder, the "Canon" salesperson talked to me and ask about A77 and he said "that's better than my Canon".

Lol, at least he didn't bash Sony and quite honest.

A large part of modern camera purchasing has to do with peer pressure and conformation to what's cool, 'popular' or 'trending'; there is also the techno-bling element.

Your reply to such stupid comments from Canon and Nikon owning friends just ought to be: 'Yeah, it's a Sony but it sure can take really great photos and videos though... nothing to be afraid of... I'm sure your Canon or Nikon can do similar things once you know how to use it right.'

It can be fun to join a local camera club and watch how their attitude changes. A lot of people won't know about the Minolta heritage nor that Sony makes most of the sensors.
