And that statement is based on what....you're subjective observations could be affected by all kinds of variables such as vision, your monitor (is it calibrated), personal preferences, your sobriety, and the list goes on. But to throw out that superficial comment "spanks..." - well, that's rather juvenile.
I shoot with both Canon and Nikon products (love 'em all) - but if I had a choice of which to get (being confined to only one), I'd get the P7700 (which I did several days ago). Of course, I have the G12, S100, and SX50 - and yes, I also have the P7100 (all of which I'm keeping).
So to say that one spanks the other....is rather fanboyish (and childish). I could be quite comfortable with any of them - 'cause in the end, the user behind the viewfinder (LCD) determines the overall quality of the image.
Thanks Juggernaut!!! I really appreciate your review and feedback on real life use of the Nikon CoolPix P7700.Juggernaut122 wrote:

I am debating between the 2. I had owned the P7000 back in the day and all I can say was, that camera was terrible. It could not fous, it was not sharp, the buffer was horrid and the list goes on. My fear is that this trend slightly trickled back in. Or am I wrong? All the samples I have seen look better to me via the G15 from Dpreview, DcResource and such. Any thoughts from current owners?
I have the P7700.
My experience:
The focus is plenty fast, and the images are very sharp (in many situations it is an adequate substitute for my D5100 when I don't want to carry it around).
Keep this in mind. Without pixel peeping the images probably look almost the same (and I have seen many images showing more detail with the jpegs from the P7700). AND, since the images will be pretty darn close, also consider that the P7700 gives you almost 50% more reach.
This is my first Nikon P&S in 10 years - have been going with the Canon lately. I can easily say that I am happier with this camera than any of my prior Point and Shoots. More zoom was important to me and I was willing to give up a bit of the image quality to get it, but with this camera I found that I did not need to give up the quality to get the zoom (even though I really wanted at least 10x zoom - but it does not exist in a quality compact point and shoot).

I have one more question for you. Can you upload a full resolution image, either Jpeg or Raw - @ the long end 170-200mm? I just want to see how it performs.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Let's see - I've been posting on these forums since 2002 - have posted thousands of images (do a search) - close to 15,000 postings in all. And you've been on these forums for less than a 100 posts (total) - and you're throwing down a gauntlet? Unbelievable - but hey, if that whet's your willey, more power to ya.
So just type in on various forum search blocks (specifically, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic), and you will be amazed at the images I've uploaded, compared, and what have you.
Yes, I've owned quite a few digital cameras - tried over 91 since 2001 - loved many of them. The ones in my profile are the ones I currently still maintain because I love their performance parameters - and some are quite old, yet still have superb color rendition. So when when I see "beats the pants off," or "kicks ass," or "spanks...," I chuckle because how one views a camera is purely subjective.

You sound like a good egg - and there's lots of information on this forum (and other forums) to really help. Just keep tuning in from time to time - although I wish, on the Nikon forum, there was more interest (compared to other forums like the Canon forum). Hopefully, as more folks purchase more coolpix models, things will change.
