I am holding off on the D600, hoping for a good sale around Christmas. Until then, the D90 keeps performing like a champ, even with almost 400,000 clicks on it's second shutter!

Shooting my all time favorite band, Rush, was the biggest thrill I have had, shooting shows. I have been seeing them live since I was about 9 (over 60 concerts), but this is the first time I have photographed them.

Chuck Berry - From a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame tribute show. Chuck sounded great at age 86 and duck walked like a champ!

Great shots!

I love the Rush ones. One of may fav prog bands of all time!

Very impressed! - checked out your website and you've got a fantastic collection of photo's of many of my favorite artists :-) It shows what can be done with a D90. Also interested to see what lenses you used - the 18-200 seems to do a very good job.

Thanks for the kind words! For most arena shows where I am in the pit, right up against the stage, I use the 18-200. It is an amazing lens, regardless of the many people who rag on it. It is wide enough to handle artists on the edge of the stage and reaches back to the drummer. I love this lens. All these pics were taken with the 18-200:

For smaller shows (House Of Blues or smaller clubs), or clubs with minimal lighting, I use the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

For arena shows where I have to shoot from the pit, I usually rent the Sigma 150-500.
I also own the Nikkor 10.5 fisheye, the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, and 35mm f/1.8.

Five lenses and a D90 = FUN!

I understand that you are adding watermarks to prevent your images from being reposted on the internet.

But by adding the watermarks over the most crucial part of the image, you are just ruining the photo. Sure, no one will "steal" your photo, but no one will want to look at it either.

Please. They are small enough that they do not take too much away from the photos.

I have Aperture add the watermarks to the middle of the photo. I have had many, many photos stolen, hotlinked on other sites, and used without my permission. I am fine with the watermarks just the way they are. Sorry you don't like them.

Looks like now is the time that you've been waiting for. $100 rebate. B&H is giving 2% ($40) in rewards and tossing in some bundled items. Me, I'd hold off though, I'm of the opinion that D600 dust 'issue' really is a thing, and seems to be internal, maybe from particles left over from the manufacturing process, but that's a guess only.

Also, nostalgic to break out some old Chris Isaak albums now. Also pretty awesome Chuck Berry.

Nice shots...Rush was also my first show way back when. It's great to see the shots of Chuck though, you don't know how much longer he's going to be playing. It's one of the reasons I go see Buddy Guy whenever he's around, aside from his masterful playing.

Great series, I especially like the Rush shots. You've demonstrated that photographers do not need the latest gear and most expensive lenses to get good results; it's the person behind the lens that matters most. This genre is more difficult than it looks so I'm really impressed by your work.

I still use my D90 so seeing how many actuations you've used, with just one shutter repair, makes me feel confident over it's potential longevity.

I can understand why you watermark your live performance images; sadly many music fans fail to understand or respect copyright ownership when it comes to music tracks and photos.

You always post very nice pictures!

You've probably answered this in the past, but do you care to say how you address noise? Not a strength of mine and little practice at it. :-)

Love the Rush photos! My son and are getting ready to go to their upcoming concert in Dallas. Kinda bummed that printed on my concert ticket it states "no camera or video equipment is allowed". Still planning to bring my D90 and just hope to get in with it! We shall see...

Have fun! You will love the show!!!!! The new stuff in the 2nd set, with the string section, is amazing!

We have the Byron Bay Blues Festival that goes for 5 days over Easter that just gets better year after year. From last year they allowed all cameras.

2013 line-up announced so far - Paul Simon - Robert Plant - Steve Miller - Ben Harper - Chris Isaak - Bonnie Raitt - Wilco - Madness - Joan Armatrading - Status Quo - Roger Hodgson(Supertramp) - Jimmy Cliff - Robert Cray - Iggy Pop & the Stooges - Rodriguez - The Blind Boys of Alabama - John Anderson(Yes) - Tedechi Trucks Band - Fat Freddy"s Drop - Trombone Shorty - Dropkick Murphys - Mavis Staples and many more. There are rumours around that the Rolling Stones and Neil Young could play as they will be touring Australia at that time.

Last year I saw one of my favourites - Keb Mo.

And really enjoyed Justin Townes Earle (Steve's son) This is a clip from day.

Is Chuck Berry about 110 now? The last time I saw him was in 1969. He showed up to a concert late, drunk, and his false teeth fell out on stage while he was telling us that we could see him at the concert the next day, for which we didn't have tickets. He appeared to be past concert age then.
