This one is more interesting to me (than the "sovereign" one). It consists of simple elements but has a strange, even mysterious character that captured my eye. I don't wish to go in details, but there is a freedom of everyday gesture here, despite the very strict cropping.

I like the photo. It is the future of the children in a photo where they have no idea of it (the future). The boys' talk, like two gentlemen (even posing as two), the girl's preoccupation with the doll (a future mother), the chasm that seperates the two worlds, everything is there, before it even takes place. Of course there is no interaction between the two worlds, that's the wisdom of the photo.

the subway pic strikes me as okay; i'd like to see the yellow of the faces taken down a bit in saturation and towards neutral. the main subject's expression is there, but isn't all that readable to me. instead, the face right at the left edge of the frame becomes the fulcrum of interest to me in this pic, but this means the entire right side of the frame is a bit underutilized.

i think the first shot is wonderful. probably something to retain for years to come. if there is usable space around the figures on the left, i would allow some more breathing room there, but the symmetry elevates the already sharp catch of the adorable dogs and makes it a photograph, as w. klein might say...
I really liked this shot, while I agree taking down the saturation a notch would help, I find the arrangement of the frame works very well. Note that she is the highest figure in the shot and the entire right side makes my eye go right to here. Her being the highest figure reinforces that she is the subject and give her that for lack of better words "away from the maddening crowd" look

Welcome back sal--

Posting mechanics have changed. Now you need to use one of the buttons above the text box (third from the right in the case of your file) to insert the link.

But at least the way you posted it takes us right to a nice quality version.

I like the character of the person and the place (with the woman in the bg), and the b&w. I suspect i would have liked to see thehqnds in frame, and probably there are some plastic id cards or something around his neck too? Might have helped to round out the picture.

I get a message saying currently those videos are available for viewing in the UK only.

Does anyone have a workaround?

Thanks,

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I have access to my kids and nephew with comp sci courses from CMU and Wellesley.

Workarounds:

Get a UK proxy server (did not find a good free one in the UK.)

In some parts of the world, but not US, get the BBC Ipad app.

expatshield works with windows, I'm told

Some have reported success downloading this with bit torrent.

One more option:
I‘ve just bought software for recording a streaming video from the web pages. I will record the BBC WK program and send you guys CDs.

After considering all options, time required, risk of hacking, breaking laws, etc., this was the recommendation:

Rent a vpn for 1 month. A list is in the above link.

I watched the show, and recommend it heartily.

It does a good job of suggesting that WK's art was in deep measure a response to his father's being wiped out in the crash of '29 and having to move to a poor part of town.

I will have to give some though as to why I don't find his anti-Americanism anywhere nearly as annoying and meretricious as Robert Frank's. Well, for one thing, it is mixed with love, and for another it is combined with knowledge and experience. And, well, he has a sense of humor.

My first impression of this was indifferent. However, i happened to click on the show original link, and that presentation made a dramatic difference, mainly because you can then see so much more in the faces. It surprised me how much of a difference it made.

But, for me the title, signs, and caption unequivocally detract from the photograph. In fact, i would begin by cropping the top off to restore a normal aspect ratio and to get rid of the random word. This also emphasizes the unusual orange color and moves it towards counting as a main subject.

Unfortunately theres no easy way to get rid of strength, stability, curity. When i obscure it from view, the picture improves significantly imo, but personally i wouldnt pschop it out. In addition, the womans closed eyes spoil a sense of interaction between them, even in the higher rez version.

I think without either a more powerful presentation of the color bg, or a more identifiable interaction/expression, the photo peters out.

Ive said before that i have a hard time appreciating the photos which rely on connections between text and like elements and other visually unconnected elements in the frame. Since it does seem to be a regular theme for you, though, perhaps there is some way to make it fly (without simply relying on a textual proclamation in the caption). I dont know what that way is, but if i were you i would work on it. Maybe if you strung together many of these shots and interrelated the elements between photos into a single story? That might reach some kind of critical mass of associations.

Because everyone is staring right at you/us, this looks mostly like a group photo for facebook or the like. The direct gaze dominates the picture much more than the color scheme does, for me. With no explanation or sense of emotion under which to categorize the picture, i run into a dead end as a viewer.

To my eye, the revised version looks far better. Even the right half of the image seems to have more depth to me now, since its tones are not so much at odds with the color foci of the first version.

Your flickr title helps me to understand what you were going for, but i still much prefer the fixed version. If you miss it too much, you could try brushing back in some saturation (not as much) juat to the scarf.
